1st Birthday of the Early Years and Infant Campus

Cake! That’s what Friday’s Early Years and Infant Campus assembly began with last week.  The children’s faces were a picture of delight and wonder. Why were they were seeing a beautiful cake before them?

In many parts of the world, birthdays are celebrated with a party and a special celebratory cake.  With last week being the 1st year anniversary of the Early Years and Infant Campus opening, we felt it fitting to celebrate in our weekly assembly. We looked back at all the fond memories that have already been created in our magnificent learning environment and celebrated the journey of development that we have been on through the first year.  This assembly was also very special as children and teachers from F1 to Year 2 joined together to celebrate.

The assembly started with a group of our oldest children, those who were first to step foot in our new campus to begin their learning journey. These children shared their fondest memories and experiences of the school that had been specifically designed to allow them to learn directly from their environment, from their peers and also from their teachers.  In a special ‘Breakfast Show’, children recounted their first memories such as, the saltwater used in the swimming pools to avoid over use of chemicals, the sensors on the water fountains to avoid water waste and the open corridors, lower ground courtyard and plants to assist with the natural ventilation of the building.  In addition, the children reminded the listeners of our BIS commitment to our 2020 plastic free pledge in that PJs café shop on site were approached by Caidla in Year 2 to stop using plastic straws and begin to offer paper straws to their customers – they did just that, thanks to Caidla.

Following the breakfast show hosted by Brian in Year 2, Mr Ian gave us a glimpse of all the wonderful learning experiences we have had throughout our first year with a video to the track “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang.  Here are just some of those wonderful memories from the past 365 days:

Today is World Children's Day and here at BIS we are encouraging student voice! . . This afternoon, representatives from our Secondary and Junior Student Councils met with the newly formed Mini-Council of Year 2 children at the Early Years and Infant Campus. Year 2 kindly took their visitors on a tour of their school after which they shared their ideas on how to make the school an even better place for learning! . . Mr Andy Puttock, Education Director of @nordangliaeducation even joined the students to learn more about how they are using their voice for positive change. . .
