Mr Ian Battersby: Weekly Update 06/12/19

The festive season is an exciting time at the British International School, Ho Chi Minh City.  The last two weeks of term are full of events involving performances, ‘exit points’ from International Primary Curriculum (IPC) topics and lots of fun.

Y1 Production

On Wednesday morning, the Sports Hall was full of excited children and proud mums and dads, as the Year 1 children performed ‘Santa’s Setbacks’.  All the characters looked fabulous as they sang their hearts out, danced with enthusiasm and delivered their lines for all to hear.  There was a point when I thought, Christmas was going to have to be cancelled, but thankfully everything came together in time for Santa to head off on his annual mission.

EYFS Christmas Singalong

Singalong

If the Year 1 production wasn’t enough to get you in the festive spirit, then the joy and delight of the F2 and F3 children singing their favourite Christmas songs certainly was.  A packed Sports Hall on Friday enjoyed every minute of the children as they confidently entertained everyone who was there, and it was great to see so many parents joining in.

Language in Focus

At the British International School, Ho Chi Minh City, we are part of a large international community.  We celebrate this in many ways; we are all looking forward to International Week that will be coming up in January.  Each month we celebrate our linguistic diversity by celebrating a different culture and language which we call our ‘Language in Focus’.  This month, our Language in Focus (LiF) is Filipino – our ‘LiF’ team explain more in this post:

Interim Reports

On Monday 9th December your child’s interim report will be available through both the new iSAMs 'Parent Portal' and 'iParent App'.  You will receive an email on Monday with the details of how to download the report.  Should you require any assistance with this process, please do visit the main office and we will be happy to help.

The interim report reflects the Term 1 progress and attainment against our BIS curriculum and Age Related Expectations for the year group.  Please take the time to read and share the report with your child as a celebration of their achievement, progress and effort this term.  For more information about our BIS curriculum and the Age Related Expectations, please click on this link.  This will take you to the parent handbook curriculum page from which you will be able to choose the individual year group or subject area for a more detailed understanding of what we measure progress against.  If you have any questions with regards to the report, please do bring these with you to the Parent Teacher Student Conferences (PTSCs) in January.  The Parents’ Evening System is open for booking appointments from Monday 9th December until Sunday 15th December.  Details of how to book an appointment will be sent via email on Monday.

PTG

PTG-DISCO-8

The fun continued in the Sports Hall on Thursday after school as children from Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed the PTG Christmas Disco.  There were some great moves to be seen on the dance floor!

Health and Safety

Clubs

Term 2 sign up begins next Monday 9th December at 5pm and ends on Sunday 15th December at 5pm.  Please do log into CHQ, view the programme with your child and select the clubs that your child would like to try.  For help with logging in to your child’s profile, please email Ms Hien at, Hien.Ton@bisvietnam.com.

Bridge to the Car Park

It has super to see so many children, parents and carers using the new bridge between the school and the car park this week.  If your driver parks in the car park, to help increase the flow of traffic, please use the bridge and not have them drive to Gate A, at the front of the school, to pick you up.

Photographs

Please take note of the school’s policy regarding photographs.  Photographs shared privately through our online journal, Seesaw, must be kept for personal viewing only; they must not be shared publically on social media.  Any photos taken in school on personal devices must be of your own children only and must not have other parents’ children in the photograph.  All photos taken of your children at school must not be shared publicly on social media or between non-family members such as, other parents in the school.  By following these guidelines, we ensure our BIS safeguarding policy is adhered to and that our children are kept safe.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Stay Vigilant

As in all major cities petty crime does occur, as a reminder to all of us please always take care of your personal belongings, especially when walking between campuses and across roads.

Thank you,

Ms Mary

iSAMS App

Reports will be available from Monday 9th December, but only through the iSAMS app or iSAMS Parent Portal website.

If you have not already downloaded this app/logged into the parent portal, please contact Ms Sarah (sarah.curran@bisvietnam.com) who can support anyone who needs help in getting started with iSAMS.

And Finally…

The Christmas events continue this weekend with the annual Christmas BISzaar, organised by the secondary PTG.  There will be lots to do and see for all the family; fabulous stalls selling wonderful gifts, entertainment from a number of the school choirs and of course the amazing raffle with fantastic prizes to be won.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Have a super weekend,

Ian Battersby
