The U13 FOBISIA Games once again took place at the world-class Thanyapura Sports Hotel and Triathlon Training Complex on the 14th -18th March 2019.

The U13 FOBISIA Games takes place over three days with students competing in athletics, swimming, basketball and football. This year, we had 29 students representing the British International School, Ho Chi Minh City competing in all four of the sports. 22 of these students were in Year 7 and in most cases a year or two younger than the vast majority of their competition.

During training in the months before the games, coaches explained to students how challenging this competition would be and the importance of grit and resilience when overcoming challenges. The messages included “not letting the highs get too high and the lows get too low”, essentially “don’t let the successes go to your head and don’t let the failures go to your heart”. We went to the U13 FOBISIA Games as a team, to represent our families, our friends, the school community and Vietnam. Our mantra for this competition was T.E.A.M meaning Together Everyone Achieves More.

During the games personal bests were eclipsed, school records broken and new friends were made. The team experienced many highs and some low points but as a group they never let their heads drop and continued to perform to the best of their ability throughout the tournament. Success was achieved quite fittingly by the entire team in the whole team events, with 3rd place in the athletics and a phenomenal 2nd place in swimming! Here's all the action as it happened...

Many congratulations to all the competitors and a huge thank you to the amazing travelling parental support. We are already looking forward to next year, making more memories that last a lifetime and perhaps some lifelong friends too.

Mr Jonny McLoughlin, PE Teacher
