Dear Parents,

We are very proud of the achievements of all our students once again this year. It was a pleasure this week to welcome parents to our annual Prize Giving ceremony to celebrate with us another very successful year.

There were so many of our students called to join us on stage in recognition of their efforts, not just in their academics, but also in their support and service to class and community. Far too many to mention here, but we will share photos of the event soon.

It was such a positive end to the year with so many students cheered on loudly by their peers for their particular skills and contributions to school life.

This is an occasion to reflect on the year past and always a wonderful occasion to join together and share in one another’s successes. It is also a great reminder that none of this happens at it’s best without you as parents. So, as we reach the end of another remarkably successful year of learning at BIS, we would like to thank you all for your ongoing support.  We know that the success of our students is founded on strong partnerships between home and school and we value that support in providing the best conditions for your children to achieve so much in their academic, co-curricular and personal development.

Overview of the week’s activities

Fond farewells

For those that are leaving BIS, we saying our fond farewells in our form tutor groups and in our final assembly.

I would like to wish you all the very best of luck for the future and encourage you to stay in contact with us. Please remember to follow us through our social media channels on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube in order to keep in contact with what is happening at BIS, HCMC and do remember you are always welcome to return to visit us - we would love to hear news of the next chapter in your journeys.

BIS Sports Awards 2019

The end to another fantastic year of Sports at BIS culminated with the celebratory evening of the BIS Sports Awards 2018-2019.  This year saw close to 100 players, parents and coaches come together in an evening of good food, great company, speeches by the coaches and highlight videos of the SISAC seasons and FOBISIA games tournaments.

The full list of award recipients is included in this blog from Mr Phil Husband, Director of Sport, BIS Sports Awards 2018-2019.

Year 10 & 12 Students Ask Our Alumni

BIS HCMC Alumni Panel

Last week we welcomed back some familiar faces as 12 BIS HCMC  Alumni joined us in the common room on Friday lunchtime to answer questions from current students about life after BIS. It was fantastic to greet so many alumni and welcome them back to pass on their thoughts and experiences to students who are just embarking on their post-BIS journey. Our expert panel was made up of alumni from ...

We really appreciate the time that our alumni have given in joining us for this year’s Ask the Alumni event and thoroughly enjoy having them in throughout the year. They have often remembered how useful these events were for them at the point that they made their university decisions and it is great that they have been able to continue this tradition and pass on their advice to our current students. We highly value the relationships that are built through their time in school and are pleased that the  affiliation with BIS still remains. We’re always happy to welcome them home!

Week Without Walls for Year 7 & Year 8

Our Year 7 and 8 students experienced a week developing their learning skills outside of the traditional walls of the curriculum and classroom.  From the 26th to the 31st of May the youngest members of our campus took part in a range of different activities designed by their teachers to challenge them as leaders and learners.

The activities ranged in theme from STEAM projects to Juilliard collaborations to wellbeing, with a lot of fun being had across the week.  If you would like to know more beyond the winning video above from our History Amazing Race activity, you can read the Week Without Walls for Year 7 and Year 8.

Events Committee - Tech No! Day

_Tech-NO Day - 19 - IMG_9136-min

When the idea of a no-technology day arose in the Events Committee’s initial brainstorming they were reluctant at best: they knew how much the students here at BIS love using phones and laptops. However, after more consideration and discussion they became more keen on the idea and the potential challenges it could create. Our continued focus on well-being and mental health at BIS reinforced how beneficial this day could be across the school. Achieving balance is something that we feel, in this day and age, is increasingly important and difficult to achieve. So...using our school as a guinea pig, we launched the social experiment that was BIS’ first TechNo! Day.

Year 7 and 8 English Competitions 2019

The BIS English Department traditionally end the academic year with some challenging and enjoyable competitions involving whole year groups at KS3, and this year saw Year 7 classes go head-to-head to find the overall Poetry Recital winner, with Year 8 verbally sparring to decide the year group’s Public Speaking champion.
