A school building is not a school without students and it has been a real pleasure to hear the classrooms and corridors, canteen and playground come alive again with the sound of students and teachers all enjoying lessons. and time with friends old and new.
Some year groups have had entry points this week to launch their IPC topics. IPC stands for the International Primary Curriculum and it covers History, Geography, Art, Design Technology and elements of science where appropriate. Using a thematic approach, students explore topics with various foci. Often these are launched with an ‘Entry Point’. Year 5 students enjoyed their ‘Mission to Mars’ entry point on Thursday, exploring what it might feel like to be weightless in space, understanding how important health and fitness is and even figuring out to launch rockets into space! More about this great event in a post from the Year 5 team next week.
Year 3 Dino Diggers!
Year 3 have been exploring their new unit on Dinosaurs and if you would like to find out more, please click on this link which will take you to an article including more pictures by Ms Kathryn, Year 3 teacher.
This week we welcomed our overseas students ‘Back to School’. They have joined lessons with Ms Victoria and have been busy posting tasks on Seesaw and Google classroom. Find out more and see who has joined BIS virtually by accessing this post from Mr Chris McKelvie, Deputy Headteacher.
Parents’ Information Evening - Updated information
We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the ‘Parents’ Information Evening’ for the Junior Campus which will begin at 5pm on Wednesday 9th September.
In a change to what we normally do, we will pre-record the presentation from the leadership team and this will be played in the classrooms at the beginning of the evening instead of a large gathering in the gym.
- 5pm - 5.15pm - All parents complete a health and declaration form in the playground at Gate A.
- 5.15pm - Go to your child’s classroom where there will be an introductory video from our leadership team, followed by a short presentation about what we want, in partnership with you, to achieve as a school.
- 5.30pm - Remain in your child’s classroom. There will be year group specific presentations and a chance, if you have not done so already, to meet your child’s class teacher.
- 6.00pm - If you have children in more than one year group, the class presentations will be repeated.
- Please make attending this event a priority! Important information will be shared by your child’s class teacher, and you will have a much greater understanding of how you can support your child’s education over the course of the year.
Parent Teacher Student Conferences (PTSCs)
The first few weeks at school are very much about settling into new classes and routines. General information will be shared at the Parents’ Information Evening, but there will be an opportunity to have a one-to-one meeting with your child’s class teacher in a few weeks’ time. Please make a note in your diary that the pastoral PTSCs will be taking place on Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th September. Details of how to book an appointment will be sent to you next week.
Co-Curricular Activity (Clubs) Sign Up
Sign up for the co-curricular activities finished today at 12 noon and the random selection and allocation to clubs will take place next week. More information will follow, including the arrangements for paying for paid activities.
Health and Safety
We have been delighted with all of our students responding so well to all the COVID precautions put in place and we thank you the parents for your continued support.
Please click here to read an important update from Mr Chris with regards to what is expected from our BIS Community in terms of COVID Prevention.
Drop Off and Pick Up arrangements.
Sincere thanks to everyone for your support in adhering to the guidelines for drop off and pick up. In the afternoons for those exiting through Gate C, please do not cross the road to the secondary campus there. Please go to Gate B where guards will assist you. Please note that parents cannot cross the bridge at this time as parents are not allowed into the secondary campus. Thank you for your cooperation.
As mentioned last week, the PTG plays such an important role in the life of the BIS community. One of the first tasks at the start of each year is to recruit Class Parent Reps and Country Reps. Do you like meeting new people? Enjoy building a community spirit? Would you be willing to welcome and support new parents and families? If yes, then one of these roles could be for you!
For more information about these roles, and how to register, please click here:
