Mina | University Offers in Zoology

Congratulations to senior student Mina, who has received offers to study Zoology from all her chosen universities. Learn more about Mina’s university offers and why she has chosen Zoology for the next chapter in her education journey.

Why Zoology?

I’ve always had a passion for animals growing up and have always enjoyed science throughout school, in particular biology, which helped me realise that I wanted to study Zoology at university. Damaged ecosystems have created unwanted changes in wildlife populations and impacted living conditions for different species, which is why I want to pursue a career in wildlife conservation and rehabilitation, and I wanted a course that would give me a base for that which also focused majorly on animals. I can’t think of anything else I would spend my life doing.

How has St Andrews helped prepare you for university?

My teachers during the course of being at St Andrews have always been supportive and helpful when I needed advice or had difficulties, and encouraged me to improve not only academically but as a person as well. My friends at school and my university counsellor have also helped me figure out which universities I wanted to apply to and were always there if I wanted feedback on anything. Being in IB has also helped me develop skills I need for university, for example essay writing and balancing workloads.

Which two of the five universities are you most interested in and why?

I am most interested in the University of Exeter and Swansea University as the modules in both of these schools stood out to me the most, and there is a lot of opportunity for specialisation and research throughout the course. They each have a good reputation for biosciences and great student experiences. I also love that the courses incorporate practical/field work into learning as well as theory. The work that I have seen alumni go into after finishing their degree is representative of what I want to do in the future.
