THEATRE

Students are introduced to theatre in grade school, building a foundation of sequenced skills that help them express themselves with confidence and poise. Through theatre, many students find their passions, express themselves fully, and discover their identity.

Our Theatre Education curriculum sets The Village School apart in the area of Arts Education, combining academic, practical, and production opportunities for all ages from Kindergarten to High School—including the IB Diploma Program in Theatre.

For more than 20 years, our after-school theatrical performance program has given students many opportunities to stage, produce, and present musicals and dramatic theatre, experiencing first-hand the smell of the greasepaint and the roar of the crowd. Renamed Village Repertory Theatre (VRT) five years ago, our theatre-in-residence program produces more than six plays and musicals per school year across all ages.

In addition, Theatre Education gives many opportunities for our students to experience theatre, theatre education, and professional performers, workshops, and master classes presented by some of the most well-respected Theatre Companies, educators, and performers from Houston, around the country, and throughout the world. Some experiences our students participated in the past school year included:

These experiences help enhance each student's exploration into their creative passions and complement their Theatrical Education.
