Nord Anglia Education and UNICEF equip students to make a positive difference on the world
The Village School and NAE's collaboration with UNICEF provides opportunities for our students to engage with and influence leaders at regional and global summits. One of these recent events was the NAE-UNICEF Global Goals Student Summit 2021. Village students Alex Ilacqua and Solemei Scamaroni served as our student ambassadors and were given the opportunity to connect virtually with other students around the world and discuss topics such as climate change, mental health, and education.

Adeline Mai, Village sophomore, and her dance company were recently named finalists in the 2021 Young American Grand Prix Finals. YAGP is the world’s largest ballet competition with over 12,000 auditions in more than 25 cities around the globe.

Juan Pablo Nunez Rodriguez developed two businesses while at The Village School. His most recent business, Kidszonee, is an organization which matches high school students as instructors with young students in activities such as music, art, physical education, and cooking.

Jennifer Thomas, Village High School's Dean of Students, recently wrote a children’s book focused on the difficulty siblings face when one goes off to college. Her book, See You in Tomorrow, is based on her son’s real-life experience when his older brother left for school.

As part of this new program, we hosted several representatives from both the French Embassy and General Consulate, as well as the Vietnamese General Consulate in Houston.

Audrey Ajakaye, a junior at Village knows first-hand how it feels to be subjected to skin related prejudice and colorism. So, when the opportunity presented itself in Audrey’s junior year at The Village School to create an innovative project, she drew on her own personal experiences and knew she wanted to focus on how skin issues impact people’s mental health.

Virtual learning presents opportunities to innovate
Early this year, learning all over the world took an unexpected turn as students and teachers had to quickly shift to virtual learning. At The Village School, many students began to ideate on how to use their time and talents to make an impact. Seeing virtual learning as an opportunity rather than a drawback, the following students came up with incredible ideas, leveraging the virtual space for continued learning over the summer.

Student Spotlight: Crocheting for a cause
Dana is a Viking with a very diverse set of interests. She is a two-sport varsity athlete, has a passion for art and is a bright IB Diploma candidate, planning to pursue Neuroscience in the future. Most rewarding of all her pursuits though is a non-profit she started called Crochet Children’s Fund. Through her non-profit, Dana sells stuffed animals she crochets and donates the proceeds to local children’s hospitals.

At Village, students pursue excellence in all they do, even extending into their extracurriculars and hobbies. For 8th grader Charlie, his combined artistry and love for baking has him creating masterpieces almost too exquisite to eat! Many different Village Vikings have gotten to enjoy his delicious creations and he’s always glad for the chance to share. We got to connect with this ambitious and eloquent baker, and hear all about his unique gift turned small business.

A senior at The Village School, Anastacia Y. already has a fully-functioning business to her name. She is the founder and owner of Elcove, an environmentally conscious company that provides a variety of cleaning product capsules and reusable bottles. Elcove’s toxin-free products aim to replace the single-use plastic bottles often found in grocery store cleaning aisles.

Stanford-bound Senior, Divyesh Khatri, Named Semifinalist for the U.S Presidential Scholars Program
Congratulations to senior, Divyesh Khatri, who has been named one of 621 semifinalists in the 2020 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The semifinalists were selected from nearly 5,600 candidates expected to graduate from U.S. high schools in the year 2020.
