Teacher Spotlight in the Lower School

Teacher Spotlight LS
Teacher Spotlight in the Lower School Learn more about Mrs. Griffin, a Windermere Prep Kindergarten Teacher

Kindergarten is an important time in a student's life as it is the start of their educational journey at Windermere Prep and will always hold a place in the child's and parent's hearts. This week we are turning our spotlight on Mrs. Griffin, a Kindergarten teacher at Windermere Prep. Learn more about how she fell in love with teaching and Windermere Prep.

How did you come to work at Windermere Prep?  How long have you taught at Windermere Prep?

I have been working at WPS for 12 years. My daughter started school here when she was in Kindergarten and at the time I was a stay at home Mom. When my daughter was in 5th grade I was ready to go back to work full-time. I loved Windermere Prep and there was no question that was where I wanted to teach.

What is your professional background?

I have a BS in Early Childhood Education and an MS in Early Childhood Curriculum. I have been teaching for over 25 years all in PreK, Kindergarten, and First Grade.

My Favorite Memory As a Teacher

I really don’t have one favorite memory. Each year there are students who are struggling in one way or another. Seeing the look on those students’ faces when they “get it” is precious and it makes me tear up every time! Those are the memories I keep near and dear to my heart.

Why a Kindergarten Teacher?

I knew from the time I was 11 years old that I wanted to teach young children. Kindergarten is a huge growth year and I love being a part of the children’s growth and their excitement at learning new things.

Favorite Activity Outside of School

I love all things, Disney. I enjoy spending my time at the parks with my daughter. I enjoy spending time with my friends, and I LOVE to read!

Family Life

I have a 21-year-old daughter, Caitlyn. She is a senior at the University of Alabama.

If you were deserted on an island and you could only have 3 cd’s, what would they be?

This is a tough one! I love so many different types of music, but if I had to choose I guess I would go with any CD by Hillsong United, Billy Joel - the essential Billy Joel, and Journey - Escape.
