In the Hotseat

It was my pleasure to be interviewed by our Year 13 Business Management students, this week. Questions focused on our recruitment processes and the selection and retention of high quality employees. We discussed the rigorous four month process that brings the best teachers to Hanoi.

We discussed the disadvantages and advantages related to staff turnover. We discovered that BIS Hanoi has an above average teacher retention rate for a new international school, with its senior leaders serving significantly longer than the international average.

Roles Reversed

We have been interviewing Year 12 students for the role of prefect, this week. It hasn’t taken four months but the quality of our candidates has been very high. The students I have met have demonstrated an inspiring and complete commitment to the improvement of BIS Hanoi. In particular, the older students are determined to encourage our children to use English as the social, as well as the academic, language of the school.

It’s Nearly Ao Dai Time!

On Wednesday 4 October, we will be hosting our traditional Moon Festival assembly. Please can I urge all secondary students to make sure they have their Ao Dai ready for this event.

Curriculum Questionnaire and Curriculum Information Morning (Tuesday 26 September)

Thank you to our pilot group of parents who tested our questionnaire for Key Stage 3 parents. They provided excellent feedback that has helped us refine the questionnaire. On  the afternoon of Tuesday 26 September, we will send out the questionnaire to parents in Year 6, Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9. The questionnaire will be in English, Korean and Vietnamese.

The pilot group asked for a curriculum information morning to be held prior to the issuing of the  questionnaire.  The purpose of this event will be to explain the content of the current curriculum in Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (IGCSE) and Key Stage 5 (IBDP). This information morning will be held on Tuesday 26 September (10 am in the school library). 

It’s Time to revise for Year 11 and Year 13 Students

Year 11 and Year 13 students should begin revising for their Progress Check Tests (PCTs). The PCTs will be held from the week beginning the 16th October 2017. To find out more about PCTs and how you can support your child’s revision, read the hub piece of Nicola Witton (Assistant Head, Teaching and Learning).
