Now that staff and students have started to work remotely from home, the support and dedication of our parental community has been exceptional. The children have been engaged, enthusiastic and resilient throughout, supporting each other wonderfully at all times.
The students have yet again shown a deep and creative understanding as they complete the E-learning planned and delivered by their class teachers.
In Year 5, children have been continuing with our space topic through reading a story called ‘Jazz Harper – Space Explorer.’ Throughout, students have been using their inference and evaluating skills in Whole Class Reading. In writing lessons, students have been creating diary extracts set on the International Space Station. In Maths, classes have started exploring factors, multiples and common multiples as well as prime numbers.
In Year 6, students have learnt about algebraic equations and formula in Maths as well as refining their problem-solving skills. The students have continued with The House with Chicken Legs in Whole Class Reading. In their writing, the children have been developing their figurative language and descriptive writing by exploring key themes from a short animation entitled: Eye of the Storm.
In both year groups, students have also been using MyMaths to consolidate their knowledge and participating in the TT Rockstars house competition.
All classes also now have a daily Reading Time session - it has been wonderful to see teachers, students, and parents come together enjoy and celebrate the power of a shared story.
Across both year groups, it has been a privilege to see so many children online and engaged. Whether it be via Google Classroom, Dojo or email, it is a delight to see the parent and school community work so closely together during such a new and sometimes difficult time.
Yet again, we send our thanks to our specialist teachers who continue to provide online learning in Computing, Vietnamese, MFL, P.E., Dance as well as Music.

As the academic year whirls by, the first term in primary school draws to a close, marking the end of a whirlwind of learning, growth, and new experiences.
As we move towards the end of term, our Primary exit points are always a great celebration of learning that has taken place over previous weeks and months.
At BIS, in addition to the excellent opportunities we are providing in the classroom, we enrich the students experiences and learning by taking them on day trips.
