When Rebecca Carroll talks about education, she doesn’t start with grades. She starts with care.
“Care is at the heart of everything we do at BIS Hanoi,” she says. “We really get to know each individual student and we personalise the learning. We understand their passions, their strengths, their areas for growth and challenge. We then tailor the education to the needs of each and every child.”
Rebecca is currently Deputy Head of Secondary, but from the next academic year, she’ll step into the role of Principal. For her, leading an international school in Hanoi means holding two values at once: high expectations and deep compassion.
The school’s academic results speak for themselves — but behind those results are carefully structured systems of support. At BIS Hanoi, academic challenge doesn’t mean pressure. It means knowing each child well enough to give them just the right push.
“Our secondary school at BIS Hanoi is a careful balance of challenge and support that’s bespoke to every individual — ensuring that when they leave us and graduate, that they’re ready and prepared to go into the world.”
This approach is grounded in the British curriculum, with a personalised approach that adapts to the needs of each student.
“We want them to feel that they can take on the world — that they’re ready, capable, and supported,” adds Rebecca.
At BIS Hanoi, academic ambition and emotional wellbeing are treated as equally important — both essential to helping students thrive. As part of the Nord Anglia Education family, the school focuses on developing not just strong learners, but resilient, caring global citizens.
Rebecca sees this every day — in the way teachers speak to students, in the attention paid to individual needs, and in the pride students take in their own progress.
“It’s not just about how they’re doing academically,” she says. “It’s how they feel when they walk through the door each morning. Do they feel known? Do they feel safe? Do they feel proud of who they are?”
This is the foundation of personalised learning in international schools: seeing every child as a whole person.
As she prepares to take on the role of Principal, Rebecca is focused on continuity — strengthening what works, while looking for thoughtful ways to enhance the experience for every student.
“We’re always asking how we can be better,” she says. “Not just as teachers, but as a whole community. That’s the kind of mindset we want to model for our students — that growth never stops.”
Her leadership will build on what already makes BIS Hanoi unique: the strength of its community, the quality of its education, and the commitment to every child’s growth.
“Our values underpin everything we do,” she explains. “They drive how we behave, how we educate, and how we interact — and everyone here buys into that.”
With a clear sense of purpose and a deep understanding of the school, Rebecca’s vision is one of thoughtful evolution: preserving the care that defines BIS Hanoi, while nurturing new opportunities for students to thrive.
