Hungarian Department News - Theatre visit to Újszínház

On Wednesday, 29th March the Year 8 Hungarian students attended a theatre visit organised by Ms Blanka Langó. We watched the play, ’A kőszívű ember fiai’ in Újszínház which is an adaptation of the historical novel of the same title. A kőszívű ember fiai (The Baron's Sons), which is one of Jókai Mór’s most popular novels, is the heroic chronicle of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848 – which era we just covered in the Hungarian History lessons. The novel raises the most intriguing questions about the revolution by depicting the life of a family at that age. 

What the students said about the play:

"We really liked Zebulon's character and the way the actor impersonated him. It was very funny." (Jay and Dani)

"The story was a bit difficult to follow, but I enjoyed it. We had the chance to see a lot of famous actors and we learnt about Hungary's history." (Fraser)

"There were some really interesting characters, for example, the two mothers. It was exciting to see how Antoinette and Baradlayné manipulated their children in different ways and how their decisions formed their future." (Danny)

The novel is also part of the Year 8 curriculum, so it was very useful that by watching the play, students had a chance to see a new perspective on the story. We firmly believe it will provide a good basis for discussion in class.
