Year 9 have been showing their green fingers/thumbs by trying to germinate cress seeds under various conditions, to see what is important for the seed growth. Some were placed in a lab and watered at a regular interval, some with no watering at all, and some placed in boiled water under oil (to see if oxygen was important). A sample was also watered and placed in a fridge to see the effect of the colder environment. The results were so good that Maté and Samer wanted to show how their samples turned out. The students were also tasked with putting together a video to explain plant fertilization, some of the finished products are available to look at.
