Each week, during the Primary Virtual Assembly, our children will be introduced to “Word of the Week!” using the Vocabulary Ninja program. It is an exciting and effective way of embedding vocabulary across the Primary School.
Students will be introduced to ‘Grasshopper’ words and ‘Shinobi’ words. Grasshopper words focus on vocabulary that children might be expected to learn through play and from experiencing the world around them. The Shinobi Word of the Day focuses on language that can sit across many contexts, subject to subject and can often be found in children’s literature and academic tests. These words require an element of direct teaching and practice for pupils to develop and secure an understanding. During assembly, children discuss ideas and make connections to synonyms, antonyms and words that might rhyme. Children are encouraged to use their ‘Word of the Week’ during lessons and at home.
