For their final Space unit project, Year 7 used mathematical calculations to build a 3-dimensional model of a star constellation. The distances from Earth of the stars in those constellations vary. They may look like a flat picture, but they would look very different from an alternative perspective.
Students chose a constellation, calculated the distances of each star from Earth and then worked out a scale to allow them to make the constellation fit in a box. They then used beads and fishing wire to make their 'stars in a box' model.
