During 10 exciting sessions in our after school CCA, we had fun discovering the wonderfully unique world of bats; we learnt the most interesting facts and why these amazing creatures are so important to our planet. Now the Bat Club is ready to spread the word and tell everyone why we must protect bats.
We made posters to show why bats are so cool: they pollinate flowers, disperse seeds to help plants grow and eat lots of harmful insects. We gave some tips on how to help them: learn more, spread the word, support a charity, grow a bat-friendly garden or put up a bat box. We also shared some common myths and misconceptions so that people can see that bats are great and not dangerous or scary; we also added our favourite bat facts about the species we find the most fascinating. Did you know that there are more than 1400 different types of bats? Their diversity is incredible!
Our final project was to put up two bat boxes around the school in the hope that some bats nearby will find them cosy enough to roost in and help keep our ecosystem healthy.
Let’s all protect bats and help them save the world!
