- 28 valuable drops creating a ripple effect
These extraordinary young individuals have gone through a series of training courses held by our SLT team and the school counsellor where they were given tools to improve their leadership and mentoring skills. They have been practicing how to build trusting relationships with their younger peers.
These mentors have been working on making a positive impact on our students and supporting a safe and inclusive school culture.
Here’s what one of our experienced mentors, Allegra (Year 13) said about her journey as a mentor.
The motivation
“I decided to become a mentor so that students had a student that they felt comfortable talking to. Becoming a mentor allowed me to give back to a community that has helped me grow over the years, so I wanted to give back to the school community and strengthen it.”
Challenges and rewards
“The most challenging would be getting my mentee to open and trust me which then also becomes the most rewarding part as the students feel comfortable around you and you can work together.”
The ‘surprises’
“I didn’t expect it to be so rewarding when you see change and improvement in your mentee.”
Bonus: skill sets developed
“It has helped me improve my organizational skills and especially my communication skills.
The exciting thing is that some of our mentees have asked how they can become a mentor in the future. This shows the true value this group of students has created!
