Year 9, whilst studying metals, have been looking at ways to prevent rusting. One process of doing this is to electroplate items with another metal. Students looked at the process of doing this and covered various items with copper using this method. If the item was metallic, and attached to the current, the copper plated it. We looked at the difference in mass of the two electrodes – before and after – to show that the copper moved from one electrode to the other. We also looked at the effect that performing the experiment for different times had on the end result.
Hopefully the locker keys will still work!
