We are thrilled to share with you the outstanding achievements of our students in the recent UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge. The Challenge is a 60-minute, multiple-choice exam designed to encourage mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.
Out of 146 entries from our school, we are proud to announce that our students have performed exceptionally well. In particular, our Year 10 students have demonstrated remarkable prowess, with 17 gold, 13 silver, and 12 bronze certificates awarded. Our Year 9 and Year 11 students have also achieved commendable success, with 3 gold, 8 silver, 14 bronze and 11 gold, 9 silver, 11 bronze certificates awarded, respectively.
What is particularly noteworthy is that our students have surpassed the usual certificate awarding ratio of 3:2:1 for the top-scoring 50% of participants. According to the official ratio, we would expect to award 21 Gold, 14 Silver, and 7 Bronze certificates, but our students have performed exceptionally well and received 31 Gold, 30 Silver, and 37 Bronze certificates. This highlights their exceptional ability to think critically and apply their mathematical knowledge to solve challenging problems.
Furthermore, we are delighted to announce that six Year 10 students and two Year 11 students have qualified for the Cayley, Hamilton, or Maclaurin Olympiad, a testament to their remarkable mathematical abilities.
We are incredibly proud of our students and commend them for their dedication and hard work in achieving such outstanding results and would like to congratulate all the participants in the Intermediate Maths Challenge for their participation and hard work.
