On Saturday the U14 Girls Basketball team had their end of season tournament at the Vienna International School.
Six teams from Vienna and Budapest participated in this event and it was clear from the start that the standard of competition was extremely high.
The girls faced local team ICSB first, who they have already competed twice against this season.
With a composed and disciplined start to their first game, the girls quickly went ahead at the end of the first half. They approached the second half with equal determination and finished this match with a convincing win: a fantastic start to the tournament!
The girls needed a win in the second of their group games against AISV to progress to the final. Despite another impressive performance the girls lost this one, with AISV proving to be a very experienced and organised side (eventually going on to win the tournament).
The girls’ final game was a 3rd place playoff where the girls faced local team, AISB. Despite a loss against this team last week, the girls’ crisp passing, quick movement around the basket and composed shooting gave the girls the lead going into half time. Unfortunately, tiredness kicked in later in the second half and AISB pulled away in the final quarter, finishing the game 24:16. This resulted in a 4th place finish for the girls overall.
This team have worked extremely hard all season and have continuously demonstrated fantastic team work, resilience and passion. Lots of positives to take away from this experience and some key areas for focus as they go back to training before the next competition: the NAGGE event next week. Watch this space…
