Did medieval people have ice skates? How did the Iranian Revolution affect oil prices? Where is Clue 13 for the earth day Scavenger hunt?! Who is king or queen of the Year 7 castle competition? Humanities week has been about the big questions and finding fun ways of getting students to engage beyond the classroom and engage with their peers from all year groups.
Our students used their Humanities knowledge every break time trying to place business logos, famous faces, and national flags and quickly racked up some house points by finishing a series of daily quizzes. Lunchtimes embraced both the collaborative and competitive spirit the Logo match-up Treasure Hunt, Asymmetric trading and Teacher vs Students Family Fued. We also introduced our brand new feature “Medieval Monday” and our Year 7s and Humanities teachers donned medieval garb all day whilst playing the game “Medieval or Not”
This all unfolded against the backdrop of our Humanities Week Trade Game where students buy low and sell…lower as tumultuous market forces from the worlds of History, Geography, Business, and Economics wreaked havoc on investments. The form group with the wisest investment will win and the prizes revealed at lunchtime
Well done to those students who won a prize but more importantly to everybody who has somehow engaged in making the world a better place by participating in Humanities Week!
The Humanities Department
This week the Music Department had a virtual Juilliard visit with our curriculum specialist in Music, Amy Christman. The visit was an opportunity for the Music team to have 1:1 discussion with Amy to discuss the year ahead and further ways we can continue to support our students in their Music learning through our Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme.
The highlight of last week was our WINE & CHEESE evening at the charming Villa 11! Around 100 parents and also teachers came together for a delightful night of connection and indulgence, savoring lively conversations and good vibes in a warm atmosphere.
In Year 2 this term, our topic is about staying healthy. The children have learned about eating healthily, playing outside in nature, doing lots of exercise, and sleeping well.
