On Monday 8th and Tuesday 10th May we hosted our annual ‘Instrumental Showcase’ in the BISB Theatre. Students from Year 2 – Year 13 were involved performing a range of pieces that they have been learning as part of their instrumental lessons this academic year. Music is one of the few activities that engages the whole brain at the same time.
Learning to play an instrument can enhance a range of transferable skills, it can enhance fine motor skills through finger dexterity and coordination, support well-being and build self esteem through creating a sense of pride and accomplishment in their work, whilst also aiding reflective skills and building resilience.
Some of the students playing in our concerts have never performed in front of an audience before and were able to demonstrate not only their instrumental skill but also bravery. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to our instrumental team for all their hard work with our students and I look forward to seeing the continued growth and quality of musicians at BISB moving into next academic year.

This week in English, Year 8 shared their completed magazines in a collaborative press event. There was a lovely buzz in the classrooms, and we were very impressed with both the quality of the work produced and the professionalism with which they pitched their final products to each other and the Year 12 Muse students who came along as well.
