Year 7 Hungarian Trip

Hungarian trip

Members of the Year 7 Hungarian classes visited Visegrád on Wednesday, 3rd May. In Hungarian History, students had learnt about all the kings in the 14th and 15th centuries, and now they had the chance to see where and how they lived and what weapons the knights used. We visited the Royal Palace where we heard interesting stories about King Mátyás and familiarised ourselves with renaissance lifestyle. Then we saw an exciting medieval jousting show on the terrace of Salamon Tower. Finally, we had a tour of Visegrád Castle where we learnt a lot about battles, and we also had a great view of the Danube.

What students learnt:

The castle on the top of the mountain functioned to save the king and was not just a residence. - Lőrinc Liebhauser-Hoór

There was a smaller house next to the palace where the county judge lived who was responsible for the castle. - Benedek Kő

During the feasts of King Mátyás white and red wine was poured from a fountain. - Laura Marosi

The wife of Béla IV sold all her jewelleries so that they could build strong castles after the Mongolian invasion. - Lujza Kopányi
