Last week, the Music Department had great fun hosting our new Juilliard Curriculum Specialist, Shanna Lesniak. Following on from last year’s success, Shanna came to visit our school to see how the Juilliard Creative Classroom is being used in our everyday music teaching. She met children from Reception through to Year 6 and was highly impressed with their learning, questioning and engagement both in class and during their extra-curricular music activities.
A singer and actress, Shanna has performed leading roles in musicals and operas. She has extensive experience working with young children and led a few workshops which the children loved. The choir performed their current repertoire and received expert singing tips, which will help them further their skills when singing in their head voices.
The two days we hosted Shanna certainly flew by, but the children are still talking about it this week and are very much looking forward to seeing Miss Shanna again in the spring.
