It’s been a fantastic couple of weeks in Reception as we started our new topic ‘Houses and Homes.’

We started the week performing the story of the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf to all of Reception in our weekly assembly. The children really enjoyed watching the teachers perform in costume! In Dolphins we listened to an audio version of the story so we had to really use our good listening skills to hear the words and imagine what was happening. As a class we learnt a new song about the Big Bad Wolf, the children then worked in teams to perform it using lots of actions and mean facial expressions!

We had a go at hot seating too! The children, who sat in the hot seat, pretended to be characters from the story. They did a great job of answering questions about themselves as though they were the little pigs or wolf. The Dolphins are becoming fantastic at asking interesting questions and I was blown away with some of their questions and answers - take a look:

Dylan: ‘Where did you get your wood from the little pig?’

Henry (little pig 2): ‘Erm… From the farmer down the road.’

Emma: ‘How did you feel when the Big Bad Wolf knocked your door?’

Philippa (little pig 3): ‘Really scared, I hid behind my writing table!’

The children then wrote some fantastic letters to the pigs,  as the big bad wolf apologising to the pigs for being so mean and nasty. Some of the children even promised to be a good wolf in the future and never blow houses down again! Well, we will just have to see about that!
