Year 3 Parrots have been designing and creating canopic jars.
They learnt that the jars were used to hold the organs of the Egyptians that were being mummified. The jars had different heads depending on the God that they were representing.
For example, Daniel made a jar with the head of a jackal as his lid to represent Duamutef who was the God that watched over the stomach. Elena chose to paint her canopic jar gold, because the Egyptians believed that by displaying their wealth they would ensure their place in the afterlife.
The children developed their resilience over the course of this project. Working with clay required them to be constantly checking and correcting what they did as it would either resist or crack. They worked hard in order to make it the same as their design.
