This week in Year 1, children have been learning about positional and directional vocabulary as part of their Maths lessons.
Children enjoyed playing the Mirror Mirror game, where they had to look and listen carefully to copy their partner’s movements and directions.
Learning continued out in the playground where children used their collaborative skills to guide their partner around the playground. It was important to make sure children were using the correct vocabulary including words such as; forwards, backwards, turn, clockwise and anti-clockwise to find their way around different obstacles. By working together, they solved real-life problems and showed resilience when trying to learn the difference between left and right.
Children also played a game of ‘Simon Says’ to apply the new mathematical language they have learned. Playing games such as these can make learning difficult vocabulary fun.
