In Reception, the children have started a new topic ‘Amazing Me’.

To start this topic, the children have been learning about our ‘Amazing Bodies’ and what we do with our ‘Amazing Bodies’.

In Literacy, the children enjoyed learning the story ‘Funnybones’ and learning the song ‘Dem bones’. The children developed their imaginative role play skills by creating dialogues between the different skeleton characters in the story. The children also thoroughly enjoyed wearing skeleton role play masks and doing the skeleton dance.

In Topic, the children focused on the different parts of the human body and sang a range of songs including ‘Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’. During Topic, the children identified the different parts of the body and spoke about what we do with each body part. The children enjoyed using post-it notes to label their body parts, as well as labelling the human body.

The children also enjoyed integrating technology into their learning by using the iPads to take photos of different parts of the body. Children also used their investigative skills and used the magnifying glasses to look at photos of x-rays. The children also used their fine motor skills and creative skills to create a moving skeleton. Some children enjoyed using non-standard units to measure how long their bodies were!

It has been lovely to see the children so engaged in their learning with their new topic. The children have learned how amazing their bodies are!
