BSY Term 1 triumphs reflecting on growth achievements and community spirit

BSY Term 1 triumphs reflecting on growth achievements and community spirit

We seem to fly towards the end of every term and this first term of the academic year 23/24 is no different.  With so many different activities and events being held, it can be difficult to keep up and time certainly does fly.

It is only just one year ago that we celebrated our first term back on campus after a hefty 2+ years online. With this under our belt, we feel much more settled and content that the children are well-established, content and happy.

Contributing to this has certainly been our great community; parents, staff and students together make up the heartbeat of any school and it has been incredible to be part of a growing and thriving community.

This year we have welcomed some new staff and plenty of new students too; it is great to see them all so settled into life in Yangon and at BSY. Our sports teams have gone from strength to strength and are becoming used to winning their matches as well as handling the emotive nature of team sports.  BSY's House system was relaunched to great effect and how wonderful was it to see the winning suggestion for new House names coming from one or our students? Complete with logos! Now we are looking for suitably fitting mascot costume!

We are proud and privileged to be part of Nord Anglia and this year have thrown ourselves fully into the MIT Challenge initiative. Working in mixed age groups, BSY showed themselves to be excellent collaborators, enquirers, creative thinkers and analytical team players as they all strived to 'Build Better Plants'. Some outstanding outcomes and an exciting day of showcasing their models and initiatives on the last day for parents and the wider community.

Seeing our Secondary students get first-hand knowledge from influential business people of Yangon in our inaugural careers' day - 'Create Your Future' was so rewarding.  Speakers from banks, businesses, hospitality and many others gave our students an insight into the world of work. Their feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Definitely to be repeated year on year.

Developing the opportunities for our musical students to perform has been a focus with the implementation of the instrumental recitals and we finished off the term with some truly joyful and festive fun in our Primary Christmas Performances - everything from Christmas around the world and M C Grammer to watching the Grinch try to steal Christmas and more.

For me, the major highlights continue to be the events that bring our whole community together such as the Welcome Back family fun fair and the Winter Fair just last week. Building on these each year we are determined to make them better and better knowing that they are such popular and collaborative events.
Next term, we look forward to our first ever Nord Anglia Ski Trip in mid February to the beautiful Swiss Alps along with BSY's Got Talent and a MUN in Cambodia amongst other things.

Lots to get excited about!  Until then, I wish you a peaceful and enjoyable winter break, a very merry Christmas to those who celebrate and all the very best for the New Year.
See you back in school on Monday 8th January 2024.
