BSY Giving Tree: 207 Acts of Kindness

BSY Giving Tree: 207 Acts of Kindness
BSY Giving Tree
The Giving Tree began in 2024 as a simple idea: invite families to pledge a gift for a child in need. What started modestly has now grown into a cherished tradition, bigger and brighter than ever. In 2025, the initiative focused on supporting children who attend SONNE Social Organisation, an NGO run learning centre in South Dagon. SONNE provides essential education, daily structure, and a safe environment for children who might otherwise have little access to schooling. For many, it is more than a classroom; it is a place where they feel valued, protected, and seen.

In the BSY foyer, a Christmas tree was decorated with tags, each representing a donor’s promise. Within just over a week, the response was overwhelming: 207 tags were taken, and the base of the tree filled with colourful packages chosen with care and generosity. Each gift carried more than a present; it carried hope, connection, and kindness.

In the final week before the holiday break, BSY staff and students delivered the gifts to SONNE, located 15km from our campus. The excitement and gratitude shared during the visit were unforgettable. Smiles lit up faces, laughter filled the room, and the spirit of Christmas was felt by everyone present.

The Giving Tree has become more than a seasonal project. It is a celebration of empathy, unity, and the values we hold at BSY. It strengthens social responsibility within our school community and inspires our students to see themselves as changemakers who can make a difference beyond the classroom.

A heartfelt thank you goes to our parents, support staff, and especially our Year 4 class for their enthusiasm and commitment. Together, we created 207 acts of kindness and countless moments of joy.

At BSY, we are proud to see our community come together in such a powerful way. The Giving Tree is proof that when we act with compassion, we not only brighten someone else’s day but also strengthen the bonds that make our school truly special.

At The British School Yangon, we believe kindness has the power to transform lives. This year’s BSY Giving Tree proved just that, as our community came together to spread Christmas joy to children from some of Yangon’s most vulnerable communities.
