Hello everybody! My name is Alex Chamberlain and I am delighted to be joining you all in Yangon. Prior to joining the British School of Yangon, I have worked across a wide range of international schools from Sri Lanka to Ethiopia, holding various leadership positions in these roles. Ultimately, my passion has always been around teaching and learning – providing students with active, engaging learning opportunities that ignite their interests.
I hold a degree in psychology alongside my PGCE from York. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to engage in some wonderful CPD opportunities including my NPQSL and Safeguarding Lead training. I will be commencing my PhD in September 2024 part-time, exploring behavioural genetics in education: being a lifelong learner is something that I wish to instil in the children I teach. I have taught across all the primary phase and have co-ordinated a range of core and foundation subjects. More recently, I have enjoyed supporting and developing student teachers and ECTs.
Outside of school, I like to be very active and can often be found hiking up a mountain or running. I am very excited to be joining your school and look forward to contributing to its continued development and successes alongside exploring and embracing the rich Myanmar culture.
‘Music is a language the whole world speaks’ – An adapted quote from the famous 19th Century Poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow that still rings true today. Music has always had an influence in every culture across the globe and seems to be intrinsically and instinctively universal.
Last year marked an exciting chapter for the British School Yangon as we launched our first MIT challenges, designed to push the boundaries of learning by encouraging students to dive deep into hands-on, collaborative problem-solving. From Early Years to Year 10, students engaged in challenges that stimulated their curiosity, sharpened their critical thinking, and connected classroom knowledge to real-world applications. What started as an initiative has now become a defining feature of our curriculum.
We are excited to share a significant milestone in our journey: The British School Yangon (BSY) has officially received accreditation from the Council of British International Schools (COBIS). This prestigious recognition highlights our unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality education that aligns with British standards.
