At one of the leading international schools in Yangon, learning goes beyond textbooks. From EYFS to Year 10, our students recently participated in the exciting MIT Challenge 2: Building a Community, a dynamic, hands-on project designed to foster creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.
The challenge encouraged students to work in teams and select unconventional materials to construct something meaningful. The objective was simple yet powerful: demonstrate how teamwork can achieve what individuals cannot accomplish alone. By combining imagination with practical problem-solving skills, students explored how communities are built—not only through structures, but through cooperation, communication, and shared vision.

The initiative was launched during a whole-school assembly where students watched inspiring clips of innovative designs created using alternative and recyclable materials. The event set the tone for an engaging and thought-provoking challenge. Adding to the excitement, our House Captain led a 5-minute mini-challenge in which students designed a structure capable of withstanding flooding in North and West Queensland. This real-world scenario encouraged resilience, adaptability, and environmental awareness—key qualities nurtured at our international school in Yangon.

Sustainability played a central role throughout the project. Several groups embraced the additional requirement of using only recyclable materials, highlighting the importance of responsible design and environmental stewardship. A standout contribution came from our student, Sandi Shoon, who created a special award inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. Her initiative reflected a deep understanding of global citizenship and the role young learners play in shaping sustainable futures.

Innovation continued with our talented Year 6 students, who developed an MIT Feedback App. This creative digital platform allows students to document their design process, share ideas, and receive constructive feedback from teachers, parents, and peers. The app promotes reflection, collaboration, and continuous improvement—skills essential for success in today’s interconnected world.

As one of the best international schools in Yangon, we are proud to provide experiential learning opportunities that prepare students to become confident, compassionate, and innovative global citizens. MIT Challenge 2 was more than a building activity—it was a celebration of teamwork, sustainability, and community spirit.
