Update from the principal

Weekly Highlights 26/01/2024 - Weekly Highlights 26 01 2024

Mr. Simon Higham, Principal

Dear Parents

Thank you for engaging and connecting again with the weekly edition of The Highlights. As always, your time is appreciated, and we hope you continue to find it a useful tool to celebrate the many successes across our school and learn more about all the forthcoming events.

Have Your Say – Make a Difference!

Weekly Highlights 26/01/2024 - Weekly Highlights 26 01 2024

Each year, we send out our Parent Satisfaction Survey to listen to your feedback which allows us to better understand what you think we are doing well and most importantly, how we can be even better year on year.

Back in 2020, parents asked us to:

  • Further improve our IT teaching facilities and other technology provision across the school.
  • Utilise and enhance our outdoor sporting facilities across the campus.
Weekly Highlights 26/01/2024 - Weekly Highlights 26 01 2024

Weekly Highlights 26/01/2024 - Weekly Highlights 26 01 2024

As a result of this, we introduced a brand-new STEAM facility, additional Computer Aided Design lab and totally redesigned and upgraded our technology spaces in Secondary. We also added x2 outdoor basketball courts.

Your feedback made a difference!

In our 2021 – 2022 survey, you asked us to:

  • Enhance our outdoor spaces for swimming and general sporting activity.
Weekly Highlights 26/01/2024 - Weekly Highlights 26 01 2024

Since then, we have a new state of the art astro turf pitch and opened our second swimming pool.

Your feedback made a difference!

Last year (2022 - 2023 Survey), you asked for more opportunities to improve parental awareness of and participation in our Nord Anglia Education programmes such as: Global Campus, Global Expeditions, Juilliard Performing Arts and UNICEF

Weekly Highlights 26/01/2024 - Weekly Highlights 26 01 2024
Through parent BVIS Connect sessions, extensive participation in Global Campus completions/events and a groundbreaking residential to our NAE school in Houston and NASA at the end of this year, we trust that more parents are now aware of our unique collaborations and their positive impact on our students’ learning.

Your feedback made a difference!

Weekly Highlights 26/01/2024 - Weekly Highlights 26 01 2024

This year, our target is to achieve a 50% response rate for the survey, but we can only do this with your help.

Make a difference today and complete the 2023-24 Parent Satisfaction survey that can be accessed through the link on the email body from today’s Highlights.

Remember, your feedback matters – help us make that difference today!

Vietnamese Perspective

Throughout the year there are many ways that teachers plan to promote and encourage students’ Vietnamese Perspective.  Learning is planned with a view of Vietnam so that Vietnamese perspective is developed implicitly during lessons.  As an example, the role play area in Early Years will have signs, labels and objects that relate to Vietnam so that as students are playing, they experience how life is in Vietnam.  In primary, the poetry studied in Vietnamese literacy lessons will reference Vietnamese cultures and traditions.

In addition to implicit teaching, explicit activities and events are also planned to support and develop Vietnamese Perspective.  Next week is a time of year when teachers plan practical and meaningful activities for students as we lead into our most important celebration of the year – Tet.  Some highlights of the upcoming week are experiencing cooking and tasting traditional Vietnamese dishes, exploring customary dress from the different provinces of Vietnam and practicing Vietnamese cultural music and dance.  Look out for updates of the week on Class Dojo and the school’s social media channels.

Tet Collection

We are so proud of our students for all the donations that they have brought to school over the last two weeks for our community partners.  The tradition of giving at this time of year in Vietnam is something that we instil in our students.  It is important for our students to develop empathy and understanding of how they can make a difference to others.  As students carried their contributions through the school gates and deposited them in the designated boxes, there was a heartwarming feeling all around.  All items that have been donated will be carefully sorted and delivered to our four selected community partners before the Tet holiday.  They will be gratefully received and will make a huge difference to people’s lives.  Thank you for supporting this year’s Tet box collection and a special thanks to Ms Tam Do and the Student Community Leaders for all the hard work behind the scenes in making the programme a success.

Mock Examinations

Students in Year 11, 12 and 13 have now fully completed their mock examinations. The value of these examinations cannot be overstated as they give the students and teachers an assessment overview of how the student is likely to perform in the real examinations in the summer.

Although the achieved grades do give teachers indicators of potential future performance, it is the learning that comes from the exams that represents the true value of the mock examinations.

The mock exam grades will be sent home before the Tet holiday, so that students have the maximum time to use this information in preparation for the final examinations.

Trips

Year 7 – Phan Thiet by Susie 7V

I really liked this trip, it was really fun and exciting! I loved to make the sand art and it was very interesting from grinding the sand to sifting to mixing the colors and finally, make the art. The fairy stream was so cool and refreshing, and I was so happy we got to go on the cable car in Ta Cu mountain. One of my favorite parts is when it was free time, we got to roam around the hills and fields while watching the students play football. Overall, it was a pleasure to get to go on the trip!

Year 8 – Cat Tien by Minh Chau (Melanie) 8I

For me it was a pleasure to be on this school trip because this is my first time that I went on a school trip. At first I thought it would be fun, but actually it was very fantastic! Me and my friend went hiking, kayaking and the activity I like the most was making soap, I made three of them. Teachers and staff were always being kind to me, and when I had hard time hiking Mr Cooper helped me a lot to stop me falling. Like I say, it is a pleasure for me to be on this trip and I appreciated it. Thank you a lot!

Year 9 – Ho Tram by Bella 9I

I miss the mixed emotions of wanting to run from the teachers, staff and friends splashing me with water from the kayaks. I miss gathering around the campfire on the beach in the evening, enjoying the breeze and the sounds of ocean waves. We will never be this young again, with the people we love so I will hold on tight to these memories. The trip was just what I needed to experience in my teenage years and was beyond my expectations.

Year 10 – Ho Tri An by Nhat Le – 10I

Personally, the trip was amazing because of the shenanigans coming from both the teachers and students. The trip created many core memories for me, and I am grateful for them. Dining with my friends and hanging out with them really brings out many positive emotions in me. I'm sure others feel the same, and this trip truly created a forever lasting experience for everyone.
