This year’s annual Secondary Production, Broadway classic “Little Shop of Horrors”, became a true blockbuster on the BVIS stage.
Performed over three days from December 4th to 6th, 2024, our production told the story of Seymour Krelbourn, who discovers a bizarre plant from outer space. The more Seymour nurtures the plant, the more it grows, and with it, his career skyrockets... But there’s a major problem—the plant’s peculiar diet: it only eats humans!
The main cast dedicated approximately 85 hours of rehearsals from the start of August to prepare for the production. Their hard work paid off, as the talented BVIS performers captivated the audience with their acting, singing, and dancing skills. Behind the scenes students working in lighting and sound ensured that the atmosphere and storytelling were brought to life.
Speaking about the production, Ms. Olivia Lopez, our Secondary Drama teacher in charge of the musical, shared, “Performing in the annual production takes a huge amount of work for students, but the outcome is more than just creating an amazing piece of theatre. The skills they have built along the way: resilience and perseverance in the face of feeling nervous, working as a team to keep going through mistakes, the discipline to learn lines in a second language and follow directions, developing confidence in communication and most importantly building friendships and working as a tight-knit team across year groups. Participating in school shows provides students with a well-rounded educational experience that extends far beyond academic learning and we hope to see even more students take to the stage next time!”
In addition to the talented students, another undeniable “star” of the show was Audrey II, the monstrous plant. This incredible creation was the result of the skilled artistry of the BVIS Art Club under the creative guidance of Mr. James Marshall, Secondary Art teacher.
The success of the musical was a collective effort of art enthusiasts from all year groups, working together to create a thrilling piece of theater.
Attracting over 500 audience members during its run, the production raised over 30.532.000 million VND to support the meaningful activities of the Blue Dragon charity.
Congratulations to all the talented students and teachers of BVIS for participating and contributing to the success of this year's play!
