Weekly Highlights is a weekly newsletter sent by the BVIS Leadership Team to parents, providing updates on notable news and activities at the school. The newsletter consists of three main sections: updates from the Principal, Head of Primary, and Head of Secondary.
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the latest edition of this week’s Highlights, representing a milestone in the journey of our Year 13 students. On behalf of everyone at BVIS, I would like to congratulate them all on completing their final A Level exams and I am personally looking forward to the Graduation this weekend – an event that celebrates the hard work, efforts and future successes of all 91 students who will be graduating this year.
Look out for news and information on our social media channels this weekend and for full details of the event in next Week’s Highlights.
Every year, NAE students across the globe support hundreds of local causes tackling the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. In the last year alone, Nord Anglia students:
• Volunteered over 50,000 hours for local community projects
• Raised nearly $800,000 for local charities.
Across BVIS, our ongoing work with our Community Partnerships has been becoming stronger and stronger.
This year, we have worked hard to make a difference to the lives of others less fortunate than ourselves. With our highly effective and proactive Primary and Secondary student leadership teams, Friends of BVIS and supportive BVIS staff we have put ourselves in the shoes of others and simply ‘given back’.
From working with Rang Dong Local School through our ECA programme, to helping those who were affected by the earthquake in Myanmar and from our annual Tet Appeal to working with Sai Gon Xanh to equip them with resources necessary to clean up our Saigon rivers, our social impact work has managed to touch the lives of many.
I am pleased to confirm that through the many activities we have organised this year and through the generous donations received, our community leaders have now actioned the following:
• 15 student scholarships in K-12 or Vocational Training: 107,100,000 VND
• 10 student scholarships in Primary, Secondary, High School, or Vocational Training: 71,400,000 VND
Total donation: 178,500,000 VND
VinaCapital Foundation – Heartbeat Vietnam
This organization focuses on providing life-saving heart surgeries for children in need. They’ve shared that the cost per child for a heart operation is approximately 36,000,000 VND (around 1,500 USD) and we will support x 10 heart operations for children
Should you wish to contact your child’s Class Teacher(s) or Form Tutor directly, we encourage communication to be written in the language you most feel confident to use.
Parents may also find it useful to contact their child’s class teacher(s) or form tutor directly for all individual queries about their academic work/social and emotional wellbeing in school. Individual contact details can be found in the Parent's Handbooks or via our Primary/Secondary Receptionists.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend ahead full of care and kindness to others.
Over the past two weeks, our youngest F1 learners took their first day trip out with their classmates and teachers. They visited Kawaii, a specialised play center for early years children, which offers many different resources and activities to challenge children's agility, balance, and overall physical development.
The children showed resilience and courage as they boarded the bus with their trusted adults from school. Following a different routine from the usual school day is a new challenge for early years children. Because of this, we are very proud of how our F1 children showed confidence and enjoyment throughout the entire trip—well done, everyone!
On Wednesday, Mr Max and Ms Charlotte, lower primary phase and assistant phase leaders respectively, hosted a parent information meeting to discuss and support students making the transition in August from F3 to Year 1.
From the change of lining up on the playground with their class before entering school each morning to the differences in learning approaches, there are many exciting opportunities ahead for our children who are now aged 5 turning 6 years old. Parental understanding of these changes ahead helps children to navigate their feelings and emotions as they experience new things. Asking children open ended questions allows them to share what is on their mind in a relaxed and calm environment. They may share the new ways they were playful in their learning as they begin Year 1 or, the differences to their daily playtime, all purposefully planned to support growth and maturity for our BVIS students.
Thank you to all parents who attended the meeting and for your continued support.
This week, Mr. Sam Chapman and his team hosted the second part of our "Every Child is Unique" workshop series. Parents brought their thoughts and questions back to the forum after the first session. The group also delved into various strategies and activities designed to assist children who are challenged by specific environmental factors, such as loud noises or rigid task instructions. We trust that the learning shared with parents over these two workshops will prove invaluable in supporting and nurturing their children at home.
If you have any follow-up questions or would like to discuss specifics about your individual child, please contact either your class teachers or Mr Sam at sam.chapman@bvisvietnam.com, who are all happy to help and advise. Thank you once again to all parents who attended these workshops. We appreciate your support.
This week, our Years 4, 5, and 6 students transitioned to a secondary education model, experiencing lessons and school life in the secondary style. This progressive experience begins in Year 4 and culminates in two full days for Year 6. One day is dedicated to the pastoral aspects of secondary education, while the second focuses on academic lessons. Students thoroughly enjoyed their time with our secondary teachers.
Beginning in Year 7, all subjects are taught in English, preparing students for outstanding international qualifications at ages 16 and 18. These A Level qualifications enable BVIS students to pursue higher education at a broad range of institutions, including top 50 ranked universities globally.
This Saturday the current Year 13 graduates will complete their studies at BVIS, with the final graduation ceremony being held at the Marriot Hotel in D1. Graduation is a time for celebration and reflection on the journeys that each student will have been on to get to this point. It marks the end of their secondary education and the beginning of the next phase in their exciting lives that now lie ahead.
It is a time that creates a complex mixing of emotions for me as Headteacher. I am immensely proud of all the hard work and effort that the students have put in and how they have grown as individuals over their time at BVIS. Our school community will miss them and their individual talents and interests.
What gives me solace about their departure, is that I know that they have been well prepared for their future with their time at BVIS. I will always be proud to have known them and helped them thrive, and I am excited to see the future they will create for themselves.
An energetic line-up was shared to celebrate the end of the exam season and academic year. We were even shared a performance by our special guest, Mr Simon Higham. Thank-you to all who have taken part and supported the Live Lunch series this year. Happy Holidays!
Thank-you to all performers and audience members for a wonderful Summer Music Concert. We were wowed by performances from our youngest musicians in Year 3 as part of the Primary Choir and our oldest musicians in the Staff Band! Our finale was a particular triumph and had everyone feeling ‘Happy!’.
Happy music-making BVIS!

We’re looking forward to an action-packed start to 2025/26!
To cap off a fantastic year of sport, we will also be celebrating our 2024/25 sporting achievements at the Sports Awards on 18th June. All award winners will be invited to come together and celebrate their success as we bring this memorable year of sport to a close.
