Weekly Highlights is a weekly newsletter sent by the BVIS Leadership Team to parents, providing updates on notable news and activities at the school. The newsletter consists of three main sections: updates from the Principal, Head of Primary, and Head of Secondary.

Dear Parents,
We began the week celebrating Children’s Day at Primary with a wonderful assembly, - scroll down to the primary section to find out more. Yesterday we celebrated Teachers Day and what a celebration it was. A huge thank you to all the Friends of BVIS (FoBVIS) who came together earlier in the week to bake cookies for all the teaching staff and presented them with the fresh coconuts to staff at a special Teachers Day Breakfast yesterday. As school staff, we are privileged to work in such a brilliant school with amazing students, and we are grateful to all our parent community for making us feel very special yesterday. Our sincere thanks to all and a special thanks to the FoBVIS for the special baked goods.

How quicky the weeks race by and the pace of school continues to be as fast as ever with so much going on. On Tuesday afternoon, I had the pleasure of attending the Global Campus Music and Art Showcase. It was a delight. To see our students come together from primary and secondary and perform for their parents and friends alongside a beautiful showcase of artistic talent was the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Guests were treated to a stunning exhibition of artwork inspired by the theme “Nature’s Wonders”, reflecting our students’ creativity and deep connection to the natural world. Alongside this, the audience enjoyed captivating musical performances from students selected for the Virtual Young Musician of the Year Competition, demonstrating skill, passion, and the joy of music-making across our school community.

My congratulations to all the participants and to all involved behind the scenes that made it such a success, including our Art and Music Departments and Global Campus Leaders.
This week we hosted 25 Nord Anglia School Leaders from across the globe. On Wednesday morning, they toured the school and spoke to students. The feedback was wonderful. They were very impressed with our students, their passion for learning, and how they interacted with them. Numerous times, we were told that they were excellent ambassadors for our school. It is always lovely to showcase BVIS to other school leaders and share what a special place it truly is.

Over the last number of weeks, our students from both primary and secondary have been competing in City Champs Sporting events across the city as well as here at home. Sport continues to grow here at BVIS with many more students participating in teams and events. We are delighted to see this happening. Congratulations to all our sports stars for this season’s performances. You have made BVIS proud. Thank you also to our PE Department who have had long days, late nights and hectic weekends with the many fixtures and events. Thank you for all you do for our students.

Thanks to all the parents that attended the many parent workshops we have hosted in the last few weeks. It is great to see parent engagement growing and building for our students. It makes all the difference.

As we draw closer to the end of Term 1, school continues to be extremely busy. We have upcoming Sports Days for Primary and Secondary students, Our Big Production – Matilda as well as various other events for students of all ages. Please do continue to engage with school communication; it ensures you won’t miss a thing in your children’s learning journey.
Our Christmas Fayre is also fast approaching – have you got your ticket yet?

Wishing everyone a great weekend ahead.

Should you wish to contact your child’s Class Teacher(s) or Form Tutor directly, we encourage communication to be written in the language you most feel confident to use.
Parents may also find it useful to contact their child’s class teacher(s) or form tutor directly for all individual queries about their academic work/social and emotional wellbeing in school. Individual contact details can be found in the Parents’ Handbooks or via our Primary/Secondary Receptionists.

It’s been another exciting week at school, full of celebrations and community spirit. We marked UNICEF World Children’s Day and Vietnamese Teachers’ Day with a range of meaningful activities and events. A special thank you to our wonderful Friends of BVIS parent group, who baked delicious cookies and fresh coconuts for our teachers and TAs to show their appreciation.
Our Primary Foyer was buzzing with music on Wednesday as our Year 6 students performed in the popular ‘Live Lunches’. Well done to everyone who signed-up and confidently shared their talents with friends.

This Monday, we began the week with a fantastic extravaganza of an assembly focused on the most important people at our school – the students. Led by our Student Council from Upper and Lower Primary, ably supported by our teachers, this was a fun and interactive assembly. We had a story, a quiz (where teachers were put to the test by our students) and our staff band performed. All this was to highlight the importance of the Rights of the Child from the United Nations. Our thanks go to Ms Ash and Mr Jac for supporting our student councils, and to all who wore blue to commemorate this day.

This week we welcomed parents to a Positive Parenting Workshop on the themes of “Wearing Your Firm Hat” and “Positive Behaviour Management.” Ms Khuyen and Mr Darragh shared practical strategies to help parents build stronger relationships with their children and develop a positive, authoritative style of parenting, showing warmth and care while also providing clear rules, routines and boundaries. We were delighted to see such a large turnout. Our next workshop, focused on building children’s self-esteem, will take place on Monday, December 1st.

On Tuesday afternoon, we hosted our very first Nord Anglia Global Campus Showcase, celebrating the incredible artistic and musical talents of students across both Primary and Secondary. Over recent weeks, children submitted Nature Art entries and musical performances to the Global Campus platform, and we proudly displayed selected pieces in an art gallery and musical performances for families. The standard of talent was exceptional. Winners from BVIS will now move on to the Global Campus competition, joining students from more than 90 Nord Anglia schools worldwide. Congratulations to everyone who took part.

This week, I’d like to introduce the first of our wonderful two Hue head students. Tran Phuc Nguyen (Anthony) has been kind enough to answer my questions, and I hope it gives you an insight into the excellent student leadership we have at BVIS!

1. Why did you want to be Head student for Hue House?
I wanted to be a head student as a way to challenge myself with more responsibilities, being more confident leading a group of people as well as a large house such as Hue. I also love bringing joy and happiness into everybody’s lives, engaging everyone in house activities which they enjoy, seeing smile on everybody’s faces makes me happy and satisfied. I am also here as head student to WIN!!!
2. What's the most important thing to you in your role?
I believe the most important thing about my role is communication, how effectively do you communicate events to your mentors, captains and digital leaders to organize these events, communicating to the younger year groups and engaging them in these house activities not only for house points but also for them to feel included. People may seem shy and it’s my job to reach out to make them feel included.
3. If you had a message for people thinking about applying for a leadership role, what would it be?
Go for it, it’s one thing not to apply but at least we have gave an effort into trying for that role. Learn from your mistakes, and if you’re really passionate about leadership, the experiences of interview and the feedback goes a long way, not only in school but also further in life. Always trying our best even though it might not give the result that we want.
We are thrilled to announce that tickets for our upcoming Secondary School Production of Matilda the Musical are now available! Tickets can be purchased for only 50k from either the Primary or Secondary Receptionists.

This beloved story, full of wit, wonder, and unforgettable songs, will be brought to life by our talented BVIS students in what promises to be an extraordinary performance. Don’t miss the chance to experience the magic—secure your seats today and join us for an evening of creativity and entertainment!
