BVIS HCMC Weekly Highlights 05-06-2026

Weekly Highlights is a weekly newsletter sent by the BVIS Leadership Team to parents, providing updates on notable news and activities at the school. The newsletter consists of three main sections: updates from the Principal, Head of Primary, and Head of Secondary.

Weekly Highlights 22/08/2025 - Weekly Highlights 22 08 2025

Dear Parents,

BVIS HCMC Weekly Highlight 05-06-2026 (18)

What has been your highlight of the year so far? What has been the highlight for your child? With only 2 weeks of term left, I have been reflecting on the year so far and all of the incredible moments and experiences that our students, teachers, staff and parent community have had.

BVIS HCMC Weekly Highlight 05-06-2026 (1)

As a new principal it has been getting to know students and staff and parents. My favourite time of the day is at the gates in the morning greeting students.

Being a teacher is honestly the only job I have ever considered.  I come from a long line of teachers, my mum, grandparents, aunts and now nieces and honestly, I think my son will probably be a teacher some day!

BVIS HCMC Weekly Highlight 05-06-2026 (4)

No day is ever the same. Being with students and seeing their excitement at learning something new, tackling a difficult problem or working with friends to achieve something is joyful.  While I am not in the classroom anymore, I do get to see this daily, and I don’t think there is another job that could compare.

BVIS HCMC Weekly Highlight 05-06-2026 (5)

In the weekly highlights a few weeks ago, I talked about conversations with your children and asking them questions. My request of parents this week is to reflect on the school year with your children.  Ask your children what their highlights are, what are they most proud of, what might they do differently next year? What would they change, what would they keep the same.

BVIS HCMC Weekly Highlight 05-06-2026 (6)

Change is ahead for our school, as it always is at this time of the year as we say farewell to colleagues and friends.

We are grateful to all the teachers that are leaving us for the incredible service they have given to our school over the many years they have been here but we are excited for them and the adventures that await them in new roles, new countries and new schools.

Change also comes in the form of redevelopment and next week, we will share details of the upcoming campus developments that will take place over the summer that will further enhance what we can offer to our students here at BVIS.

Summer Music Concert Invitation

BVIS HCMC Weekly Highlights 28-05-2026 (10)

All members of our BVIS Community are warmly invited to attend our upcoming Summer Music Concert, taking place on Thursday 11th June, from 3:30–5:00pm in the BVIS Auditorium. This special event is a wonderful opportunity for students across both Primary and Secondary to share their love of music.

Please register your attendance using the Microsoft Form.

Please note: parents of students who are participating in the performance have already been contacted via email. Please kindly check your email and complete the permission form to confirm your child’s attendance.

Our summer school is still open with a few spots left.  If you haven’t made summer plans yet, this is the perfect way to keep your children active and engaged this summer and away from devices!  See the details on the poster below.

Weekly Highlights 29/08/2025 - Weekly Highlights 29 08 2025

With only two more weeks remaining before the end of what has been a fantastic year in Primary at BVIS, there is still so much to celebrate across the school.

This week, we were treated to a wonderful Year 1 assembly where our students performed with great confidence and articulation as they proudly shared their learning with parents and peers.

We also wish the very best of luck to our U11 FOBISIA Games team, who headed off to Thailand this morning to represent BVIS in an exciting international competition taking part in 4 different sports over the weekend. We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved in preparing for this event.

Y3 to Y4 Transition Workshop

On Thursday, we welcomed parents to a transition workshop focused on the important move from Year 3 in Lower Primary to Year 4 in Upper Primary at BVIS. The session explored the changes students experience as they move into a more independent learning environment, including increased expectations around organisation, responsibility and home learning. Parents were also introduced to the use of OneNote as a key platform for learning in Upper Primary and discussed the appropriate and supportive use of devices at home to help children develop positive learning habits and digital responsibility.

Electing New Student Leaders

This week, we began the exciting process of electing our new student leaders for next year’s Year 6 Student Executive. Our current Year 5 students have been putting themselves forward for important leadership roles, ready to take up the mantle from our outgoing Year 6 leaders who have done an outstanding job representing the student body this year. We are incredibly proud of the confidence, responsibility and enthusiasm shown by all students involved as they prepare to lead and inspire others across the school community.

NAE SEA STEAM Festival 2026: Engineering the Flow

This weekend, BVIS proudly hosted the inaugural NAE SEA STEAM Festival 2026, welcoming students and teachers from Nord Anglia schools across the region for an unforgettable three-day experience of creativity, collaboration and engineering.

BVIS HCMC NAE STEAM Festival 2026 (1)

The festival, themed Engineering the Flow, challenged students to design, build and test innovative solutions for transporting water through a series of engineering obstacles. Following a welcome evening featuring Vietnamese cultural workshops and team-building activities, students spent Saturday tackling a range of hands-on engineering challenges, including bridge construction, water transport vehicles, ziplines and mechanical grabbers.

It was fantastic to see students from Years 6 to 9 collaborating together and confidently using real-world tools such as power drills, saws, pipe cutters and screwdrivers to design and manufacture fully functioning solutions to real engineering problems. Working safely and responsibly throughout, students experienced a level of practical, hands-on learning that they would rarely have the opportunity to access elsewhere.

BVIS HCMC Weekly Highlight 05-06-2026 (17)

The festival culminated on Sunday with Engineering the Flow, a large-scale team challenge that brought all of the students' designs together. Working against the clock, teams combined their engineering solutions to transport water across the sports field while overcoming a series of surprise obstacles and challenges.

Throughout the weekend, students demonstrated outstanding teamwork, communication, creativity and resilience, while forming new friendships with peers from across Southeast Asia. The event was a fantastic celebration of STEAM learning and a memorable experience for everyone involved.

A huge thank you goes to all staff, students, support teams and visiting schools who helped make the festival such a tremendous success.

From Scraps to Soda: A Pineapple's Journey! (By Cherry, A.K, Bao, Anna, and Minh Phong – Y7 Gardening Club Members)

Three years ago, the gardening club was tasked with bringing in leftovers: pepper cores, rejected potatoes and pineapple tops. These discarded items were planted, cared for, and grown back into new plants.

Last week, to celebrate the pineapples finally fruiting, we BVIS Gardening Club students conducted a study. With our own plants carefully replanted to continue growing, we used fresh pineapples to investigate different parts of the fruit (the flesh, the core, the rind, the eyes, the base and the top) and how each can be used. We compared processed pineapple juice to fresh juice we had squeezed ourselves. The processed juice was artificially sweetened, while the fresh was tangy and lasted longer on our tongue. We then experimented with carbonation to turn the juice into soda, tasted how the fruit changed when caramelised, and ranked our preferred ways to eat pineapple.

Overall, it was a surprising and rewarding experience, and one that made us proud of our little garden's progress!

Business & Economics FOBISIA JAWS Event

Business and Economics teachers from across the FOBISIA network gathered for an inspiring JAWS (Job Alike Workshop) event, bringing together educators from China, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam to share best practice and enhance teaching and learning across the region.

Throughout the day, delegates participated in a range of engaging professional development sessions, including gamification strategies for introducing Business and Economics concepts, techniques to improve students' essay-writing skills, evidence-informed approaches to feedback, and discussions exploring the vital role that positive teacher-student relationships play in improving outcomes.

BVIS HCMC Weekly Highlight 05-06-2026 (10)

The event provided valuable opportunities for collaboration, professional reflection and the exchange of innovative ideas. Attendees left with practical strategies to implement in their classrooms, helping to further enrich student learning experiences and achievement.

A fantastic day was enjoyed by all, and the workshop successfully strengthened professional networks while laying the foundations for future collaboration between Business and Economics educators across the FOBISIA region.

Parent Partnership – Summer Learning

This week, parents joined our final Parent Partnership session of the year, exploring how effective support at home can promote student wellbeing, motivation, independence and academic success. Through discussion and research-informed activities, parents reflected on creating healthy learning habits and achieving the right balance between challenge, support, rest and summer learning.

Florya

I’m pleased to be able to inform you all that a student led project to ensure female students have access to period products has now been put into action.

BVIS HCMC Weekly Highlight 05062026 jpg

These dispenser boxes, designed and created by our student group Florya, have been placed in two of the girls' bathrooms to ensure that all female students have access to sanitary products throughout the school day. The system works entirely on trust with all students being told to only take what they need. This initiative will be further developed next year when the team review how successful this initial pilot project is.
