Weekly Highlights is a weekly newsletter sent by the BVIS Leadership Team to parents, providing updates on notable news and activities at the school. The newsletter consists of three main sections: updates from the Principal, Head of Primary, and Head of Secondary.

Dear Parents,

What has been your highlight of the year so far? What has been the highlight for your child? With only 2 weeks of term left, I have been reflecting on the year so far and all of the incredible moments and experiences that our students, teachers, staff and parent community have had.

As a new principal it has been getting to know students and staff and parents. My favourite time of the day is at the gates in the morning greeting students.
Being a teacher is honestly the only job I have ever considered. I come from a long line of teachers, my mum, grandparents, aunts and now nieces and honestly, I think my son will probably be a teacher some day!

No day is ever the same. Being with students and seeing their excitement at learning something new, tackling a difficult problem or working with friends to achieve something is joyful. While I am not in the classroom anymore, I do get to see this daily, and I don’t think there is another job that could compare.

In the weekly highlights a few weeks ago, I talked about conversations with your children and asking them questions. My request of parents this week is to reflect on the school year with your children. Ask your children what their highlights are, what are they most proud of, what might they do differently next year? What would they change, what would they keep the same.

All members of our BVIS Community are warmly invited to attend our upcoming Summer Music Concert, taking place on Thursday 11th June, from 3:30–5:00pm in the BVIS Auditorium. This special event is a wonderful opportunity for students across both Primary and Secondary to share their love of music.
Please register your attendance using the Microsoft Form.
Please note: parents of students who are participating in the performance have already been contacted via email. Please kindly check your email and complete the permission form to confirm your child’s attendance.
Our summer school is still open with a few spots left. If you haven’t made summer plans yet, this is the perfect way to keep your children active and engaged this summer and away from devices! See the details on the poster below.

Should you wish to contact your child’s Class Teacher(s) or Form Tutor directly, we encourage communication to be written in the language you most feel confident to use.
Parents may also find it useful to contact their child’s class teacher(s) or form tutor directly for all individual queries about their academic work/social and emotional wellbeing in school. Individual contact details can be found in the Parents’ Handbooks or via our Primary/Secondary Receptionists.

With only two more weeks remaining before the end of what has been a fantastic year in Primary at BVIS, there is still so much to celebrate across the school.
This week, we were treated to a wonderful Year 1 assembly where our students performed with great confidence and articulation as they proudly shared their learning with parents and peers.
We also wish the very best of luck to our U11 FOBISIA Games team, who headed off to Thailand this morning to represent BVIS in an exciting international competition taking part in 4 different sports over the weekend. We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved in preparing for this event.

This weekend, BVIS proudly hosted the inaugural NAE SEA STEAM Festival 2026, welcoming students and teachers from Nord Anglia schools across the region for an unforgettable three-day experience of creativity, collaboration and engineering.

The festival, themed Engineering the Flow, challenged students to design, build and test innovative solutions for transporting water through a series of engineering obstacles. Following a welcome evening featuring Vietnamese cultural workshops and team-building activities, students spent Saturday tackling a range of hands-on engineering challenges, including bridge construction, water transport vehicles, ziplines and mechanical grabbers.
It was fantastic to see students from Years 6 to 9 collaborating together and confidently using real-world tools such as power drills, saws, pipe cutters and screwdrivers to design and manufacture fully functioning solutions to real engineering problems. Working safely and responsibly throughout, students experienced a level of practical, hands-on learning that they would rarely have the opportunity to access elsewhere.

The festival culminated on Sunday with Engineering the Flow, a large-scale team challenge that brought all of the students' designs together. Working against the clock, teams combined their engineering solutions to transport water across the sports field while overcoming a series of surprise obstacles and challenges.
Throughout the weekend, students demonstrated outstanding teamwork, communication, creativity and resilience, while forming new friendships with peers from across Southeast Asia. The event was a fantastic celebration of STEAM learning and a memorable experience for everyone involved.
A huge thank you goes to all staff, students, support teams and visiting schools who helped make the festival such a tremendous success.

Three years ago, the gardening club was tasked with bringing in leftovers: pepper cores, rejected potatoes and pineapple tops. These discarded items were planted, cared for, and grown back into new plants.
Last week, to celebrate the pineapples finally fruiting, we BVIS Gardening Club students conducted a study. With our own plants carefully replanted to continue growing, we used fresh pineapples to investigate different parts of the fruit (the flesh, the core, the rind, the eyes, the base and the top) and how each can be used. We compared processed pineapple juice to fresh juice we had squeezed ourselves. The processed juice was artificially sweetened, while the fresh was tangy and lasted longer on our tongue. We then experimented with carbonation to turn the juice into soda, tasted how the fruit changed when caramelised, and ranked our preferred ways to eat pineapple.
Overall, it was a surprising and rewarding experience, and one that made us proud of our little garden's progress!

I’m pleased to be able to inform you all that a student led project to ensure female students have access to period products has now been put into action.

These dispenser boxes, designed and created by our student group Florya, have been placed in two of the girls' bathrooms to ensure that all female students have access to sanitary products throughout the school day. The system works entirely on trust with all students being told to only take what they need. This initiative will be further developed next year when the team review how successful this initial pilot project is.
