BVIS Highlights in September 2026

Monthly Highlights is a monthly newsletter sent by the BVIS Leadership Team to parents, providing updates on notable news and activities at the school. The newsletter consists of three main sections: updates from the Principal, Head of Primary, and Head of Secondary.

A Wonderful Start to the Year!  

As we move through the first month of the academic year, I would like to take a moment to thank our students, parents and staff for helping to create such a positive and successful start to the year.  

Across the school, it has been wonderful to see our community embracing every aspect of school life. While high-quality learning in the classroom remains at the heart of what we do, it is the energy, enthusiasm and sense of belonging beyond the classroom that truly bring our campus to life. 

Thank you to the many students who have already immersed themselves in a wide range of opportunities, from ECAs and sports fixtures to auditions for upcoming productions, performances at Live Lunches, and countless other activities that enrich our school community. Your willingness to get involved, try new experiences and support one another has been fantastic to see. 

Our sincere thanks also go to our parents. Whether attending Parent Evenings, Coffee Mornings, workshops, FOBVIS bake sales or other community events, your engagement and partnership continue to play a vital role in the success of our school. The strong connection between home and school is one of our greatest strengths, and we are grateful for the time, encouragement and support you provide. 

As I walk around the campus, I am continually struck by the sense of purpose, community and optimism that fills our school. The start of the year has been exceptionally busy, with a myriad of activities taking place across the campus each day, and it has been a joy to see so many members of our community participating and contributing. 

The excitement certainly does not stop here. Over the coming weeks, students and families can look forward to a wide range of opportunities and events across the school. From our much-anticipated Halloween celebrations for younger students, to the University Fair for our older students and parents as they explore future pathways, there will be something for everyone. We also have a busy calendar of sports fixtures, performances, competitions, community events and learning experiences planned throughout the term.

Dear Parents,

It has been a wonderful start to the year. Thank you all so much for your support. This first month has seen lots of things ‘beginning’. We have begun our first units of work for each curriculum area. We have begun our new choral lessons in Lower Primary. We have begun our specialist Art lessons in Upper Primary. We have begun so many things that will set the tone for the rest of the year. We have new students beginning their time at BVIS and we have existing students beginning to really get settled into their new year groups and classes. There is so much on offer and we are looking forward to a great year!

Parent partnership: Parent Evenings, Parent workshops for PE and ICT 

A huge thank you to all our parents who attended our first Parents’ Evenings of the academic year. These meetings provided a valuable opportunity to share how well our students have settled into their new classes and to discuss their initial learning targets for the year ahead. We have also been delighted to begin our programme of Parent Workshops, with our PE team sharing the progression of expectations in PE and swimming, alongside the important role physical activity plays in supporting cognitive development and wider learning. Our ICT workshop also focused on digital innovation and digital wellbeing, helping parents understand how we can work together to support children in using technology positively, safely and effectively. 

Sporting Fixtures Begin for Under 11’s 

It has been fantastic to see our sporting seasons get off to such a positive start, with our Under 9 and Under 11 football teams already enjoying excellent performances and victories against ABCIS and SIS. Our players have represented BVIS brilliantly, demonstrating teamwork, determination and sportsmanship both on and off the pitch. We have also made a great start with our swimming squads, with students showing real enthusiasm and commitment in their training. We look forward to watching all our young athletes continue to develop, compete and represent BVIS with pride throughout the year. 

 

ECAs / Clubs and Sign Up

Our ECA and clubs programme has made an excellent start this year, with more activities on offer than ever before and a wider range of opportunities for our youngest students in response to their requests. We have also expanded our competitive and performance groups across both sport and the arts, giving students even more opportunities to develop their talents and interests. Our new partnership with SAC for our Swim Academy has begun well this week. It has been wonderful to see a record number of students signing up and getting involved, making this our biggest and most exciting programme yet. 

 

Fundinotots Begins

Our Fundinotots baby and toddler group started again last week and has already proved incredibly popular, with sessions quickly filling up. It has been wonderful to welcome our youngest children and their families into the BVIS community for opportunities to play, explore and learn together both indoors and outdoors in our new fantastic play areas. With such a positive response, we are now looking to expand our provision over the coming weeks and offer even more opportunities for families to join us.

Smoothie Sale for Charity

The Maths Faculty are delighted to share with you the success of the first project for the Year 13 Diploma Maths Class. On September 4th, 2026, the Year 13 students organised the Smoothie Sale which was a primary transition project from Year 6 to Year 7. As this project was an initiative which began when the students were in Primary School, the Year 13 students also invited Year 6 students to enjoy Smoothies and Yogurts.  

As part of this year’s curriculum, the Year 13 students worked hard from the beginning of the project which included researching, intensive planning, meeting with different stakeholders and finally, executing the project event. It was a fantastic day filled with enthusiasm, teamwork, and smiles.  

Most importantly, the event brought everyone together for a great cause, with a total amount of proceeds of 1 475 000 VND going towards supporting Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation.

Student Leadership Recruitment - Round 2!

This month, our House Captains, Deputy House Captains, Council Leads and Deputy Leads have been busy recruiting their teams. These include Student Mentors, Committee Members and our newly expanded Careers & Universities Champion role. 

These teams are about much more than supporting events and competitions. They will help grow our BVIS community, mentor younger students, lead initiatives and connect with our wider community. 

Next week, we begin the final stage of recruitment, looking for Digital Well-Being Champions. This role is open to students from Y7 upwards and will support our students in using technology in a safe, ethical and supportive way.

ECAs

At BVIS, we are committed to developing the whole student, both inside and beyond the classroom. A key part of this is providing students with opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills and discover activities they enjoy outside of their academic studies. 

This term, we have made significant improvements to our Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) programme, resulting in our strongest response to date from students and families. 

One of our key developments has been to expand the range of times when ECAs are offered. Students can now take part in activities in the morning, during lunchtime and in the traditional after-school slot. This has enabled us to offer a wider variety of sessions, make better use of our facilities and, most importantly, give more students the opportunity to participate at a time that works for them. 

The impact of these changes has been particularly encouraging when compared with Season 1 of the 2025–26 academic year. The overall number of ECA activities we offer has increased by 32%, while the number of available student places has increased by 51%. This expanded provision has been met with an excellent response, with 52% more ECA places being filled than in Season 1 of 2025–26. 

We are delighted with the enthusiasm shown by our students and families. While we are proud of the progress we have made this term, we will continue to review and refine our ECA programme to ensure we are providing the best possible range of opportunities for our students. 

Finally, a huge thank you to all of our parents and carers who have encouraged and supported their children to get involved. Your support has played an important part in helping us achieve these fantastic results. 
 

Senior Summit Launched for KS4 and 5 students 

This Friday during tutor time, our Sixth Form, Year 10 and 11 students came together for a productive Senior Summit, a meeting to discuss how they can better support each other and prepare for the exciting transition to Sixth Form. 

The students identified several important challenges that many young people face when making decisions about their A-Level pathways. Discussions highlighted that some students feel pressure to choose subjects or career routes that may not fully match their interests, strengths, or future aspirations. Others can find themselves selecting courses without a clear understanding of what studying the subject at A-Level involves, sometimes leading to changes later in Year 12 and a loss of valuable learning time. 

Our current Year 12 and 13 students possess a wealth of recent experience and practical advice. Having only recently completed their IGCSE examinations and navigated the transition into Sixth Form themselves, they are perfectly placed to share lessons learned, study strategies, and guidance with younger students. Our next senior summit will follow report cycle 1.
