Programme for Students Aged 12 to 14

Week 1 – Spotlight on the World

In the first week, students are introduced to the excitement of global events, exploring how sport, music, and culture bring people together across the world. Week 1- The Science & Technology of Sports (MIT)

In the first week of Summer School, students will use NAE’s exclusive collaboration with MIT to step into the world of sport from a different angle. Investigating why things happen in sport that we see day-to-day but rarely ask ‘but how does that happen?’ or ‘why is it designed that way?’. Students will use BVIS’s extensive, brand new STEAM facilities to investigate a range of sporting equipment, as well having the opportunity to design their own sports equipment and facilities.

Week 2 – Building the World Stage
In the second week, students go behind the scenes to discover what it takes to deliver world-class global events. Through hands-on challenges and creative design tasks, they explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Art, and Media, learning about sustainability, innovation, and problem-solving. Collaboration, critical thinking, and leadership are key focuses as students work together to design and plan elements of their own global event.

Week 2 - The Art & Expression of Sports (Juilliard)

In the second week we will take full advantage of NAE’s link with Juilliard to delve into a more creative vision of sport, and experience just how many skills are essential for both dance and sports, such as rhythm, balance and timing. Students will also explore the relationship between music & motivation, and the impact it can have on performers of different sports, as well as the supporters who go to watch.

Week 3 – Taking Centre Stage
In the final week, students bring their learning to life by creating and hosting their own global celebration. Combining sport, performance, creativity, and communication, students apply skills from across the curriculum while strengthening confidence, teamwork, leadership, and presentation skills. The week culminates in a vibrant showcase event, celebrating unity, creativity, and the joy of learning together.

Week 3 - The Social Impact of Sports (UNICEF)

Our final week of Summer School will encourage critical thinking by enhancing students’ debate skills, and developing their global citizenship and awareness. They will look at sport through one more alternative angle, and learn about the challenges and privileges some aspiring young athletes experience, through our close work with UNICEF. Students will round off this exceptional summer school with a performance, video or maybe even a reading of their Summer School ’25 journey through sports.
