This international experience not only allowed our students to extend their mathematical thinking beyond the classroom but also strengthened their confidence, global-mindedness, and ability to thrive in new environments. Below, our students share their journey, challenges, triumphs, and reflections in their own words.

On Thursday, 5th March, four Year 5 and four Year 6 students travelled to Shanghai to represent Dover Court in the FOBISIA Maths Challenge, a regional competition bringing together more than 36 schools from over 10 countries and over 300 students.

On the first day, we worked through a series of challenging activities, including a maths-themed scavenger hunt and a fast-paced calculation round. In the evening, we enjoyed a delicious BBQ dinner. By the end of the day, we were exhausted but proud of our efforts and happily collapsed into our luxurious beds at the Crowne Plaza.

The next day, we took part in a construction round where we built a skywalk using a set budget and careful measurement. We also completed an ‘Around the World in 80 Minutes’ challenge and a split-relay maths race. The event finished with a delicious buffet gala dinner and an awards ceremony. One of our Year 6 teammates, Kei Takemasa, also won a bronze medal in the individual challenge!

Throughout the competition, we were proud to represent Dover Court, showing resilience, perseverance and teamwork. We had to work together a lot, and sometimes it was tricky, but we didn’t give up! We were happy to show everyone what Dover Court students can do and are very grateful for the opportunity to take part in such a fun and memorable experience!
