Mastering a new language is not just about being able to communicate effectively with new groups of people. It also means opening up to a new culture, a new way of seeing the world, a new set of references. In a word, mastering a new language is a form of enrichment. It is both an art to improve the mind and an excellent investment for anyone's professional future, whether in Switzerland or abroad. As the French philosopher Marc Blondel quite rightly said, "You can't foresee the future, but you can prepare for it". There is a very good chance that today's children will complete some of their studies and have part of their careers on the international scene. So why not give them that extra helping hand now?
An innovative bilingual programme
To allow today's children to seize the opportunities that life will offer them tomorrow, we have put in place an innovative programme in partnership with our sister school, Collège Champittet, which has a 113-year-old history of academic excellence. The bilingual programme comprises equal numbers of lessons in English and in French. In English, the children will join the international pupils, from over 30 different countries, thereby getting plenty of opportunities to practise the language actively, while developing their critical faculties and the desire to learn - the core of our educational methodology. In French, the pupils will be in small, highly personalised classes that closely follow the French-Swiss curriculum. The pupils will be guided and monitored in a way that enables them to develop their maximum academic potential. The icing on the cake, as it were, of a programme that offers the best of both worlds, is that pupils can confidently choose between the Swiss federal bilingual Maturité examination or the International Baccalaureate.
