IBDP students are throwing their hats in the air

Outstanding results achieved by our IB Diploma students for the 2020/21 academic year

We are extremely excited to announce the outstanding results of our 2021 International Baccalaureate graduating class at La Côte International School Aubonne (LCIS).

For the 2020/21 academic school year, a total of 22 students sat their IB Diploma at La Côte International School Aubonne (LCIS). Impressively, the average score from our Class of 2021 was 36, the school’s best ever and 3 points higher than this year’s IBDP global average of 33, widening the gap between LCIS and other IB schools around the world.

2021 IB Diploma Results Highlights

Our 2021 IBDP results showcase a number of impressive statistics for this cohort, both on an individual level and collectively:

  • Our students’ average score in the IB Diploma was 36, the school’s best ever results and nearly 10% higher than the 2021 world average.

  • 27% of students achieved 40 points or more, a result achieved by just 9% of IBDP graduates worldwide this year. This level of attainment provides LCIS students with the opportunity to gain admission into elite universities across the globe and, along with our outstanding overall pass rate, demonstrates that LCIS supports every student in achieving exceptional academic standards irrespective of their starting point.

  • Georgia Severson, our top points scorer with 43 points, has gained an undergraduate place at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States, currently ranked the top university in the world.

  • No less than 43% of our students obtained a bilingual diploma, giving them a significant advantage when choosing universities and entering employment

  • 95% pass rate, compared to the world average of 89% in 2021.

Every single student in the cohort took the full IB Diploma examination – we do not believe it is right to enter students for lesser qualifications when they have given their all – so a pass rate of 95% is quite phenomenal. Andrew McLoughlin

Andrew McLoughlin, Head of Secondary, commented:

“Two things stand out particularly with this year’s graduates. Firstly, in conjunction with our students, LCIS actively chose to pursue the examination route rather than opt for the non-examination route using teacher-assessed grades. Our students have worked so hard through these two very difficult years, and they did not want to give anyone the chance to say they had not achieved these results through rigorous examination processes. Secondly, every single student in the cohort took the full IB Diploma examination – we do not believe it is right to enter students for lesser qualifications when they have given their all – so a pass rate of 95% is quite phenomenal.

Our average score in the IB Diploma continues to improve every year, and benchmark higher than the global average, which highlights the excellent academic standards at La Côte International School Aubonne and the calibre of our students in comparison to other international schools globally.

This continued academic success is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students through the rigorous programme of education that they pursue during their time at LCIS. Our teachers also drive these exceptional results by encouraging and inspiring our students to not only succeed in life, but to truly flourish.”

LCIS graduates gain access to some of the world’s top universities

Graduating from La Côte International School Aubonne with an IB Diploma provides our students with a passport to higher education in some of the best universities both within Switzerland and across the globe. This year we have seen our students receive multiple offers from prestigious academic institutions including MIT, University of Toronto, Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne and some of the top UK universities.

At LCIS we are committed to nurturing individual talents and passions so that our students can take ownership of their future, whatever they choose to be or do in life. This is clearly evidenced by the varied higher education subject choices selected by our Class of 2021: from Business Management to Car Design, Medicine to International Hospitality, Politics to Art Foundation.

These results are quite stunning and a testament to our students, their teachers and their parents. What our students have achieved is quite magnificent in any circumstances, but their tenacity and downright ‘never give up’ attitude to the most difficult of circumstances, taking whatever life throws at them and refusing to accept anything but their very best, marks them out as something quite exceptional. Andy Puttock, Principal

Principal Andy Puttock echoes Andrew McLoughlin’s comments:

“These results are quite stunning and a testament to our students, their teachers and their parents. What they have achieved is quite magnificent in any circumstances, but their tenacity and downright ‘never give up’ attitude to the most difficult of circumstances, taking whatever life throws at them and refusing to accept anything but their very best, marks them out as something quite exceptional. My warmest congratulations to all of them.

Beyond their academic success, our students leave LCIS with the flexibility, confidence and resilience necessary to thrive in the multicultural, multilingual world of tomorrow, and armed with the belief that they can achieve more than they ever thought possible.”
