IPC International Primary Curriculum

The International Primary Curriculum, commonly known as IPC, is a comprehensive, thematic and creative curriculum with specific learning goals for every subject. At La Côte International School, the IPC programme complements the English National Curriculum in the Primary school and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), to help develop a global mindset from a very young age.

IPC Curriculum

The IPC-International Primary Curriculum is taught in over 1,000 schools across 90 countries around the world, with many opportunities for students and teachers to share their experiences and learning.

As a flexible, interdisciplinary programme focussed around subject, personal and international learning goals, the International Primary Curriculum offers students the opportunity to truly develop their knowledge, skills and understanding through exciting and meaningful units of work, called Topic Work.

Each IPC Topic Work unit covers the following subjects: Geography; History; Science; Art; Technology; Physical Education; Music and Computing.

IPC Curriculum
I love that IPC places such emphasis on developing the student’s personal traits and equips them with transferable skills they can use in any situation, both in an educational setting and in the community around them. Mark O’Brien, IPC Lead and KS2 Coordinator

IPC units of work include a variety of themes, which are age relevant to each group: age 5-7; age 7-9 and age 9-11. In the younger years, units are based on topics that enable students to draw on their own experiences such as ‘The Toy Maker’ and ‘A day in the Life’.

Older students study more complex topics, which focus on developing their investigative and research skills, such as ‘Mission to Mars’, ‘Chocolate’ and ‘Champions for Change’.

Each thematic IPC unit includes an international aspect, to help students develop a global mindset, as well as Personal Learning Goals, eight individual qualities and attitudes essential to thrive in the 21st century.

Enquiry, resilience, morality, communication, thoughtfulness, cooperation, respect and adaptability. The eight IPC Personal Learning Goals are integral to our EYFS, KS1 and KS2 and prepare our students for life beyond LCIS. Mark O’Brien, IPC Lead and KS2 Coordinator
