Michelle Schmidt

DP Biology & Science Teacher

As a young girl Michelle could often be found studying a flower or an insect she had come across in the South African Bushveld.  Passion for something often results from first having been curious and it is this curiosity about even the smallest aspects of nature that made her fall in love with the inner workings of living organisms. Michelle holds a B-Ed Honours degree in Education Management, specialising in Biology at the North West University in Potchefstroom.  She gained her UK qualified teacher status through Reading University.

Michelle has taught at Bede Academy in Blyth, Abbeyfield School in Northampton, Sawston Village College in Cambridge and more recently at the International School of Basel.  In that time, she has held various roles as Science Teacher, Pedagogy Leader, PGCE and NQT mentor, Deputy Director for Learning in Science and Key Stage 4 Coordinator.  Over the past three years she has also been involved with the Swiss Young Naturalist Tournament, as a juror and mentor.

Michelle joined LCIS in 2019. She is looking forward to nurturing a love of learning and science at La Côte International School.  If you see her, please say hello in Afrikaans, English, Dutch, Flemish or German. She'd enjoy the practice!
