Words from our Director

Dear CDS Families,

I hope you and your family are doing well, are safe and healthy, and that your child’s first week of our new school year was awesome, allowing them to develop strong relationships with their teachers and peers, and helping them establish grounded routines for their learning.

We offer this Newsletter as an important means of communication with you, our valued families, and also a place to celebrate our successes and spotlight our students’ talents. Unlike previous years where the Newsletter was weekly, this year it will be shared every other week instead, to temper overwhelming you with too much information.

I shared a letter yesterday with updated information about important logistical topics at school, so I will keep this note brief. However, I did want to emphasize the importance of our continued vigilance with health and safety protocols against the Covid-19 virus, which will need to be maintained for the foreseeable future. And I also wish to stress the way we manage a Covid positive case (which has already happened and will likely occur again), the details of which were explained in yesterday’s letter.

We are fortunate to have a sizeable percentage of our students and parents vaccinated for Covid-19; the percentages range from 25% to 95% in grades 6-12 (with G6 @ 25%, given the 12-year-old age cutoff, and all other grades @ 75% or higher) and our parents @ 96%. All of our staff are either fully vaccinated or have received the first shot, with the second scheduled for August 31. Having these levels of vaccinations in our community offer us decreased risk and increased comfort in managing the virus.

Each year we choose a relevant theme, and this year is centered on well-being and inclusion: Be You. Be well. Belong. We chose this to allow all of our students to feel free to be who they are, to be balanced and healthy (physically, mentally, socially), and to be included. Please join us with values and behaviors at home as we endeavor to make this theme come alive.

If I can be of any help or service to you or your children this year, to make their year the most awesome one ever, please write to me at or call me at 2289 0919, ext. 2224.

Wishing you a great weekend!
