Words from our Director

Dear CDS Families,

I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday season and are enjoying a lovely start to the new year 2022. Since this is our first newsletter in the new year, I wish to welcome families of the 27 new students who started this week. We are so glad you chose CDS and promise that your children will get an awesome education at our school and that you will find our parent community super welcoming, warm, and supportive.

Like I did throughout the first semester, I want to keep you updated on Covid-related issues at our school, especially with the contagious omicron variant present. As of today, we have 16 active student positive cases and four active staff positive cases (three of whom end quarantine today). Like trends elsewhere, this represents a significant spike for our CDS community. Thankfully, almost all the cases have presented mild symptoms, especially for those already vaccinated, characterized often like a bad cold. We have been able to maintain the consistent health of our teaching staff in order to deliver both face-to-face and virtual learning for our students, an important priority for the well-being of all.

Virtual School (VS) Option

We had 47 Primary students (five in EC, 42 in ES) and 50 (22 in MS, 28 in HS) Secondary students choose VS this week, some because of positive Covid-related reasons and some out of caution to see, post-holiday break, how the situation evolved. We will offer a VS option for another week, through next Friday, January 28, then after that, starting Monday, January 31, expect everyone to return to face-to-face on-campus learning. We will offer VS for students who test positive, for those in a household under sanitary restriction by the Ministry of Health, and for those in close contact at school with a positive case. But all other students are expected to avail themselves of the many benefits of on-campus learning, where our biosecurity measures – sanitation, masking, distancing, ventilation, etc. – allow for high levels of risk mitigation for infection.

I wish the best for your children to have a most successful second semester of this academic year and to your family the best for a wonderful new year 2022! As always, please write to me at cds_director@cds.ed.cr or call me at 2289 0919 ext. 224 if I can do anything to help you and your family have the absolute best experience possible at CDS.

I hope you have a great weekend.

With Panther Pride,

Signature Dr. Adams
