Secondary Update – From Mr Simon Graves 27/11/2015

27 November 2015

Our secondary Teachers’ Day assembly didn’t take place until the end of the day last Friday, so I didn’t have the chance to say thank you to the student council and other students who once again made each of us feel so special and valued. I always feel  extremely blessed to be Headteacher of so many fabulous young people, and they reminded us of how lucky we are to have so many wonderful teachers and other staff.  They work tirelessly for your children, but knowing that they are appreciated by the students is reward enough.

It was a busy weekend for many of our staff and students. Our under 15s took part in our first ever FOBISIA sports event, with 15 teams from years 9 and 10 travelling  across South East Asia…to ABC School. Both Mr Kenny and Ms May reported that the young people were a real pleasure to take away, and were also extremely successful in the sports.

Secondary Update 27112015 5

The under 13s will have a chance to take part in their games, this time in Bangkok next March, with letters going out today.

Meanwhile, our senior and intermediate maths teams were competing in the Saigon Maths Challenge, also at ABC School with our intermediate first team coming an amazing second place overall! Our thanks to Ms Ackroyd and Mr Reid for giving up their weekend for the students.

Secondary Update 27112015 6

On Tuesday, around 200 people came along to our seminar on A levels, IB and the American education system. Thank you to those of you who attended – I was quite nervous with so many people there!  – and I hope you found it informative and useful. For those of you who couldn’t make it, please watch the video to be published shortly. What was particularly interesting is that American universities prefer students to study high school in their home country until they graduate, rather than go first to a US high school…

Today you will have received the second of your child’s grade reports for the year. I trust you will see the progress s/he is making and be pleased with his/her efforts. Next week, parents of year 8 students (Tuesday) and year 9 students (Thursday) will be able to talk with subject teachers at the parents’ evenings, with the year 10 evening being held on Tuesday, 8th December.

For the year 9 evening, we are trialing an online booking system. About which you will have receive an email this week. Please do take the time to go through these instructions and make appointments to see your child’s teachers.
