New in the Primary School – Global Citizenship Area

02 February 2015

Our BVIS Mission states:

“At BVIS we act with integrity and treat one another with respect, learning together as responsible global and Vietnamese citizens”.

Over the past year, developing our learning environment and curriculum to support children’s learning about global citizenship has been an area of focus in the Primary School. You may remember the installation of the map downstairs in the basement near the Main Hall last December and our inaugural “International Day” in February. Teachers have also mapped out the opportunities for learning as global citizens in their planning for the core curriculum.
This week saw the opening of our new Global Citizenship Area, just outside the Library. This was planned last year and high quality books, a beautiful carpet and other resources were ordered from overseas to create this focus area in the Primary School. Children gathered around with their teachers on Monday afternoon as we officially cut the ribbon and, as you can see from the photos, groups of children have had the opportunity to use the area this week as an overspill from the Library.
Like the Library, this focus area is special and should be treated with care and respect. It is “open” for teachers to use with children from 08:30 – 15:00 every day.
