Primary UKMT Mathematics Competition at BVIS

15 June 2015

On last Tuesday morning, BVIS hosted the first ever Primary UKMT Mathematics competition in Ho Chi Minh City. It was an exciting morning of mathematics, with schools bringing their best Year 5 and Year 6 mathematicians from ABCIS, RISS, BIS – AP1 and BIS – TX. In total there were 10 teams and 5 rounds of competition.

Both BVIS teams started the competition strongly with Team 1 winning the ‘Logic’ round and then Team 2 winning the ‘Make a number’ round. The teams continued to perform well and came in as a brilliant 2nd and 3rd in the overall rankings. Special praise goes to Tram in Year 6, who was one of only two students to get full marks in the ‘Individual’ round.

o   1st BIS AP1 (team 1)

o   2nd BVIS (team 2) & RISS (team 1)

o   3rd BVIS (team 1)

o   4th ABCIS (team 1)

o   5th BIS TX (team 1)

o   6th BIS AP1 (team 2)

o   7th BIS TX (team 2)

o   8th RISS (team 2)

o   9th ABCIS (team 2)

As always my thanks go to all who helped run the competition, including Ms Louisa in the Secondary school and also to Ms Khuyen and Ms Nga, the teachers who helped the children to achieve their success. During the competition each team had a Year 11 volunteer to oversee, so I would also like to pass on my gratitude to them.

This was the first time this competition has been run and due to its success we look forward to hosting it again next year and inviting even more schools to compete.
